All the Moai were impressive, but these were my favorites. They were so well preserved, with the top knots, individual faces and characteristics, and the visible tattoos carved on the back. In addition the solitary moai is so different, and the setting can not be beat. I am afraid I did not indulge in the beach, but the moai alone make this the most amazing spot on the island!

This is almost THE only beach where you will be able to take a dip while in Easter Island...it is the postcard beach, with white sands and turquoise water, and even though we went there during fall, the wáter was warm.
It is surrounded by a little park planted with palm trees, with picnic tables scattered all around. This is the only part of the island with a tropical feel. And in addition, there are moais in the background!
I wouldn´t recommend bringing babies and toddlers though, since there is no basic services here (no drinkable water, no place where to dispose trash).

For all practical purposes this is the only beach on the island, and the only good location to pull a boat on shore. The result is that this has been the best landing site since people came to this island, and is said to be the location of the landing of the very first settlers. Even Thor Heyerdahl landed here. This is one of the top five or so places to go on this island.

The sand, the palms and the Moais make this place quite different from the rest of the island because usually you miss one of the three things. Here you have everything. After a long drive on a road similar to swiss cheese (the holes!), you eventually arrive at this tiny bay with a sandy beach and another ahu with the mighty Moais. The palms let you forget that the remaining part of the island is treeless so for a while you can feel like in a true tropical paradise.

We drove to Anakena from Ahu Tongariki on a road that was marked on the map as being paved. I'm not really sure what "paved" meant, because this road was definitely not paved, but dirt with deep ruts, potholes, and tons of obsidian waiting to poke holes in tires. But nevertheless, it was a gorgeous drive and Anakena was definitely worth the trip! There are two parking areas; one on the main road and then another one that actually goes closer to the beach (nearer to bathrooms, food). There were three huts providing food; we had amazing empanadas, soda, beer for a reasonable price. The bathroom cost 500 pesos but it was incredibly clean and decorated with fresh flowers. The beach itself was absolutely gorgeous with warm water and soft white sand. The Moai look inland but seem to protect the beach - it is an absolutely beautiful setting. And above the beach there is a hill with a cave (we could see horses up there so we didn't hike it). The Moai are very well preserved because (evidently) they were toppled into sand, not rock. Tons of detail. Definitely a place not to miss!
