“Gauchos, bbq and horsing around at an estancia near Buenos Aires! Excellent!!”
Reviewed August 11, 2011

The estancia, La Cina Cina, was amazing. It was one of the best Buenos Aires day trips that we have done.

Located just an hour and a half outside of Buenos Aires, there is a small town called, San Antonio de Areco. It is a sleepy town, steeped in history, estancias (ranches) and gaucho (cowboy) culture.

We arrived to La Cina Cina estancia late in the morning and were welcomed with a complimentary drink and a tasty empanada. After our snack, we walked around the picturesque grounds and the property was lovely. There were trails to walk, a bird watching tower, horse drawn carriage rides and a huge swimming pool.

After walking around a bit, we toured the massive bbq area and saw the master chefs in action as they prepared a feast for all of the guests. Upon hearing the cowbell, we took our seats in the dining room for a delicious lunch- steaks, chorizo, chicken, pork (all from the grill) plus salad and complimentary wine. During lunch, there was a music performance by local gaucho singers and dancers that featured the local culture and history. We even got up and danced!

After lunch, we took an easy horseback ride around the ranch (it was huge) and then watched the gauchos compete in traditional games. There was horse racing and some challenges where the gauchos showed off their horse riding abilities (standing up) as well as galloping at full speed and inserting a silver knife through a ring hanging from a cord. It was pretty amazing!

La Cina Cina is set in the countryside and home to over 50 horses and numerous cowboys. It was a perfect combination of a comfortable, rustic farmhouse, ranch as well as cultural show. With tasty food, excellent customer service and a warm welcome from the family owners- I would highly recommend a day trip (dia del campo) or an overnight stay. It is a great way to experience "the real" Argentina and discover the countryside and traditional culture of the region.

We booked our trip with Mariana at www.sayhueque.com and were very pleased with her customer service as well. She arranged our morning hotel pick up, transfer to the ranch and the return the next day to our hotel in Buenos Aires. Overall, a great experience.

Highly recommended. From BA hotel pickup to the comfortable bus, friendly and understandable tour guides and ultimately the 4-5 hours onsite, the trip was a great one. Wonderful onsite activities and tasty food throughout the day. Give it a shot and have a great time

Since I live in Buenos Aires, I´ve visited the Estancia La Cinacina lots of times, and by now it feels like coming home... Beautiful old Estancia meets great nature, the Gauchos and the staff are adorable! If you are planning a romantic weekend, I highly recommend La CinaCina. Rooms are cute and clean, breakfast house is great, you can spend a day at the huge pool or horseback riding, or participate to the "fiesta gaucha" which is a great and old tradition in the the argentine countryside. San Antonio de Areco is a small but very interesting village, you can easily spend a night mingle with the locals, walking around the numerous little bars and restaurants and be part of great traditional dancing after dinner - no show, not for tourists - all real life :-)

Very friendly place. Carlitos was a great host and the "empanadas" of the place are phenomenal! (took 3 dozens to Buenos Aires with us) Food was plenty and the shows, horsemanship and dancing, were very enjoyable and good memories. Rode horses, took photos, went on a "sulqui".... I would go back anytime, in fact we visited the place twice!!! the second time with a friend...
We did not stay in the accommodation as we thought we could do better in town for less money. I think we were right! But the entertainment and food offered were excellent.
Well worth the money!!!

I spent two nights with my family in the estancia just for relax. But when I arrived I found every kind of insects dead in the bathroom and in the shower... I had to clean ( as I could) in order to give a shower to my children.....It is true : it is an estancia in the middle of nature but still.... it is not possible that a guest recently arrived had to find such a dirtyness. Moreover the rooms have a terrible smell. for the rest the location is beautiful but it does not worth the price.

Friends came over encouraged by us, who actually had an enjoyable time last time,
This time, differently, to our astonishment they were not served all the variety a typical parrilla should have (just chorizos, vacio, and chicken), their plates were taken off without asking whether they were done, and the wine bottles were refilled instead of brand new!!

Geee, what a shame, the place is great yet this is not to be expected from a place that aims at having international exposure

We stayed here for several nights at the end of our Argentinian trip. It is located just a 10 minute walk outside of the small town of San Antonio de Areco. Horses and sheep graze freely while you sip fresh hot coffee and home made croissants topped with fresh jams for breakfast. Horseback riding, walking and free bikes are available as is free internet. This is a ranch so the buildings are rustic but quaint. The bathrooms need redoing though as doors must be lifted up with a bit of force to close and the showers don't drain properly. We did take in the famous BBQ and show while there. The food is hearty, but the show is overly long and attended by busloads of tourists. To my knowledge the is no spa.
