This is a very small but friendly, clean and confortable hotel in El Chalten. There are only 9 rooms, all simple but nice bed and great shower. The hotel itself is pretty new and there is a nice view of the Fitz Roy.

Really enjoyed this place. Beautifully built and decorated; clean and modern rooms, and nice, helpful staff. It was a little noisy when people were coming and going, but that was my experience at all 3 places I stayed in Argentina. We had one issue where our key card access didn't work and the place wasn't staffed after 11 pm so we were locked out and were panicking a little. Luckily the town is small enough that someone at a corner bar sent me to a restaurant to get help and somehow they produced a key card for us. The staff didn't seem phased by this the next morning, which seemed a strange reaction. I'd recommend checking to make sure your key card works. Nevertheless, I'd definitely return to this place.

Spent two nights at Hosteria Infinito Sur after checking some other places at El Chalten.
Rooms are pretty nice, king bed size with a fully equipped bathroom. Comfortable shared living area with books, newspapers, magazines and a TV .
Little bit more expansive than other options at El Chalten , but definetly worth the money!!

Very impressed by this little hotel. It was like an oasis in the wonderful wilderness of El Chalten. Lots of wood and a beautiful sitting area to watch the changing weather. Comfortable rooms. Only nitpicks: little uncertain with the hot water, but may have been a one off. Also, be wary of noise on weekend nights (can't remember if it was Fri or Sat night). There is some restaurant very close by that apparently has a disco party every weekend. It was LOUD. These guys should really ask them to ease it up for the sake of their guests. But if noise doesn't bother you, no worries at all -- this place was great.

This is a great little place. It is all wood based with high ceilings in the large lobby/dining/bar area and just a nice feel to it. The settee was great for mid-evening just sitting down with a glass of wine and looking at Mt Fitzroy as it tended to be visible in evening.

Rooms are fine with comfy beds and good bathroom. The location is only 2 mins walk from main street and some very good restaurants.

Reception was fine and friendly. They let us check out a bit late as well. There is a laundry place about 80 metres away on way to town centre.

Breakfast is pretty much same as everywhere in Argentina - not inspiring but enough to get you going.

As for location, this town really has all 4 seasons in a day. We arrived on 27th Dec in freezing cold and pouring rain. The windspeed cannot have dropped below 50mph on drive from El Calafate. We were so disappointed as only had 2 days there and thought that no chance of seeing mountains. 2 hours later we were getting sunburnt !!

The mountains are truly spectacular due to unique formations of Fitzroy and Cerro Torro. This place is full of trekkers with everybody seeming to go hiking into the mountains. There are very clearly signposted footpaths and free maps that show the routes/length and suggested time.

The only thing that I would question is the literature and everything that states this is a hikers mecca and one of top places in South America. There are about 7 paths in total and that is it - they do go to see exceptional sites though. They are also very easy and there isn't much height gain. They are terrific but don't think this is the most way out wildnerness experience as it is not. I go to the English lake district regularly and the sheer variety of footpaths which are in thousands matches up rather favourably with 7 paths here (of which two are the entry paths to mountains).

They also make out (probably sensibly to prevent disasters) that this is real tough country and that whilst you can do circular walk in a day, it will take about 9 hours and be very tough. It is 13 miles of fairly easy terrain and I ran it before breakfast in just over 2 hours !!

Overall, well worth a trip to this town though.

PS. The first ATM opened in town when we were there but had no money. Take Arg pesos with you as whilst every single place takes US Dollars, the exchange rate is often exceptionally low.

We spent Christmas in this great little clean hotel ideally placed for the main street through El Chalten in a great room. We were able to leave extra baggage when we went hiking to Fitz Roy for a couple of days and then stayed another night when we got back.
Do not stay in room one by the stairs which we were placed in the second time, it is very noisey!
Great views of Fitz Roy from the lobby area. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

We spent 5 nights here in November as part of a one month trip in Chile and Argentina and were very comfortable here. Hotel is small but very attractive: lots of hard wood, tile, pale walls, interesting fixtures etc. Our room was small (no room to fully unpack or leave two packs without bumping into them), but clean, very nicely decorated, the bed EXREMELY comfortable, and the bathroom spacious. Walls seem to be thick, because we never heard a guest when in our rooms. No view at all from the room, but great view from main lounge area. There is a bar here, and a couple of couches which are handy for those days when the wind and rain are blowing so hard you think the roof is going to come off! Staff friendly and helpful (thanks Vanina and Vanessa!). Location as good as anywhere in town. Only complaint: breakfast totally inadaquate as start to full day hiking: It would have been nice to have something a little more substantial available than toast and pound cake.

If you are arriving by bus, make sure you arrange for a pick up or have a map in advance, b/c the hotel is not easy to find if you don't know where you are going. Once you've found it, it is no problem, but it isn't sign posted from the direction of the bus station (other end of town from the main entrance), and the folks at Caltours had no map, no phone, and couldn't tell us where the hotel was located. Fortunately, El Chalten isn't that big, but when the winds are blowing, isn't the sort of place you want to be wandering around lost with a pack on your back!

If you have the chance, take a taxi (or shuttle) to El Pilar and then hike back towards town along the Rio Blanco, picking up Laguna de los tres and Laguna Capri on the way back. It makes for a long day out, but is a gorgeous walk and avoids the uphill slog that you have to do if you do the trail the other way round.
