It is so beautiful, the pictures and the words can hardly set some expectations. We did the trek Laguna De Los Tres in a sunny day and the views were stunning! We started from El Pilar, the hike up to the last km before the laguna was an easy one. The last km was hard, very steep, at the end we had some snow (mid Oct). The laguna was frozen, nevertheless it was so beautiful, we spent more than an hour admiring Fitz Roy. The trek back to Chalten was very pleasant, however in total the whole trek took us about 10 hours (incl the breaks).

From afar and as close we could go, something about Fitz Roy and the spires is captivating. Experience the photogenic Patagonia.

Mt Fitz Roy is beautiful mountain in the region and its peak can be seen during clear weather. Even if it is cloudy you still can see it while clouds move.

The hike from El Chalten to Laguna De Los Tres is around 20km return trip which takes 8-10 hours as a day hike ( including lunch break ) for leisure hiker like us. We started from Hosteria El Pilar ( the shuttle costs around 150 pesos per person from El Chalten at 8 or 9am, and will take you there in about 20min), which was a great choice to enjoy a different landscape on the way and return, in particular we could see the glacier Piedra Blanca in the morning. The hike is of average difficulty. The last hour on the way up is a bit steep but manageable if you are reasonably fit. When you reach the Laguna De Los Tres, do check out the laguna Sucia on the left side, a second laguna which is hidden towards the left side. There is a small hill as a view point on your left where you can get the view of two laguna together. We were lucky the day we went was vert clear, and the early Spring timing was perfect to see the laguna De Los Tres frozen, while laguna Sucia which is a few meters lower was already melted and therefore perfectly green in color. Spectacular! On our way back to El Chalten, we took the route which passed by the laguna Capri which is pretty too.
Highly recommend this trail!

We had a lovely time trekking around Cerro Fitz Roy. The terrain was moderately challenging for us; we are decently fit and get exercise. It was an amazing way to spend a few hours. The sights are absolutely spectacular through most of the hike, some is in a pleasant forest canopy but you usually get treated to stunning views. I wanted to go here for years and was not disappointed.
The base of the hike is easy to reach at the end of town. There are clear signs and we were one of about three cars in the parking lot when we set off round 10am on an October day. We never even saw a place to pay for our excursion, so it was all free! Weather can change rapidly, I was glad to be dressed in layers. A portion of the hike goes by a lake and my husband drank right from it with no consequences. If you are considering this place, I absolutely recommend it. Only places like Alaska and New Zealand have been comparable in beauty, in my opinion.
