The rooms in this hotel were quite clean, and the staff was helpful in checking the weather to determine which day would be best to hike to Fitz Roy and arrange the tours and transportation. The rooms were large and comfortable for five nights in El Chalten. The location in the northern end of town is great for hiking on the trails toward Fitz Roy. The free breakfasts are mostly continental items, but the staff will make eggs and bacon if you like as long as they are available. (I asked for bacon on morning and they had none).

The biggest problem was that there were two planned power outages in El Chalten when we visited and the hotel never communicated this to their guests. Also, the staff seemed to be a bit cold to their guests.

Stayed here as part of a organized hiking trip. Very clean hotel. One of our two rooms was slightly musty. Some of our group really enjoyed the spa. Internet was very slow but hey- you are on vacation in a beautiful location so why worry about that. Very nice service and a good breakfast. Made a pleasant place to stay after some more rural settings

You are in a very small town and this would be a great choice. This is the closest hotel to the start of the Fitz Roy 10km hike where every step on the way back counts. After the Fitz Roy hike we soaked in the jacuzzi and then went to dinner. It feels like a big log cabin, with clean rooms and bathroom. Breakfast buffet is very nice, mostly continental style w some cheese and ham.

El Chalten is a small remote town in fantastic scenery. It is quite a surprise to find a hotel like this in the town, and it is lovely to return here after a day out walking in the mountains. The hotel is made of wood and looks lovely - the rooms are large, beds comfortable, good bathrooms. The staff are really friendly and helpful, and knowledgable about the walks in the area. They are totally accepting of dusty boots and clothes. Some reviews mention that it is 'out of town', but there is no real town centre and recent development, such as it is, has been near the hotel, so it is in fact within yards of restaurants and bars. It is also just yards away from the Laguna los Tres walk. Many guides suggest taking the bus to Hotel el Pilar to start this walk, but I would recommend walking in and out direct from El Chalten - the views of the Fitzroy mountains are much better on this route.
The hotel restaurant food is good and reasonably priced, but no one eats here which makes the atmosphere a bit sterile. Same for the bar area, which is lovely and very comfortable, but empty.
It can be hard to find accommodation in El Chalten, and while this hotel is relatively expensive, it really is of a very good standard.

Stayed in El Chalten while exploring the Fitzroy Range. Hotel was an all timber construction both in and out finished to a high standard. Rooms were very comfortable, The Hotel was on the edge of town and had a poor view from windows but not important as you see the real beauty of The Fitzroy's. Hotel had a nice bar with internet access and you could get matte to drink if you dare.
Staff were great , room service (laundry) was excellent and cheap, so treat yourself to a freshen up if your backpacking. Hotel didn't do evening meals but the town is full of really good restaurants. Don't be put of by appearances of the restaurants as the whole town is full of log cabin structure, a little feel of the wild west , but terrific. I booked a guide for the three days we were there and he was knowledgeable and great fun.

Room Tip: Choose on as high up as possible, the all wood hotel creaks and echo's a bit but if your above i...

The first thing we have on our mind, reminding this hotel is the wood. Wooden facade, wooden floors, all this very stylish and (to us) appealing.
At the same time, the wood brings probably the only problem we had with this place, YOU REALLY HEAR EVERYTHING, Your neighbour from above, Your neighbou in next room, anyone just pasing Your door. Otherwise, we had no compaints. Fine breakfast, with fresh orange juice, attentive staff and nice decoration. The best is to trekk all day in the fantastic nature and get Yourself tired to death..

Room Tip: Upper floor

Loved our stay at Destino Sur.
We are on a 10 month back packing trip and treated our three night stay at this hotel as some relaxation time to enjoy some TV, spa and lying in.

The spa is great with a freshly run hot tub bath with lemonade, slippers, towels, gowns...it could be better designed as it's quite open in the spa area so if someone wanted to come and use the gym, it could possibly ruin the relaxation of your private spa time as it's just a few metres away from you.

The room was lovely however the TV did not support all the channels advertised on the leaflet and the channels that were available had poor to weak signal at times. The WiFi also suffered poor signal as does the rest of El Chalten due to the mountains blocking the satellites. It put a dampener on our stay as we had really intended on paying good money for a great hotel and private room experience and to enjoy some entertainment.

We ate at the restaurant in the hotel twice. The prices for both the food and drinks are very fair and the quality of food was brilliant. We recommend the rib eye meat dish (110 Arg Peso) and the chocolate marquise (60 Arg Peso) or the trifle as dessert (40 Arg Peso) - very nice and well presented.

The staff were very friendly, Florencia especially was happy to chat with us as she was serving us in the restaurant. The lift didn't work during our stay and it beeped the whole time which you could hear when it went quiet in the hotel but hopefully that'll get fixed soon.

I suggest staying in el Chalten for at least a week as there is so much to do with regards to great treks and hikes. Take loads of cash as there is no bank in the town, just one ATM in the bus station.

I recommend staying at this hotel, we had a lovely time and came out refreshed and relaxed. There's no signage if you're walking from the bus station It takes about 15 minutes and is just off the main road, the guy in the bus station cafe can pin point it on the map for you if you're stuck.

Room Tip: Stay on the top floor so you don't have guests moving on the hard wood floors above you.
