I had mixed feelings about this hotel - it has, without a question, phenomenal and very comfortable rooms. They are well decorated, modern, and comfortable - we appreciated having this private space to unwind after several days of hostel-like accommodations in Torres del Paine trekking. The orange juice included with their free breakfast is awesome - fresh squeezed.

What wasn't great about the hotel was that it lacked much "soul". The lounging areas didn't invite you to linger (no one was), and it always felt a bit empty / transient. It's at the far end of town, a 10 - 15 minute walk from the train station, and since we were going to town at least once a day, and several days multiple times, it became a real drag to constantly be hiking back and forth. If you can't fathom staying in anything but the nicest rooms, stay here. I think there might be less "classy" but better hotel options elsewhere in town, however.

We stayed here over New Year's Eve and New Year's Day while on a NatGeo hiking trip. El Chalten is an interesting town inside the National Park. There are some good places to eat nearby, but this is mainly a town where guided or unguided hikes can be arranged. The rooms are very nice and the staff is helpful. The breakfast is good as well.

Based on what we saw in El Chalten, the two nice hotels are Destino Sur and Hotel Los Cerros. Destino Sur holds a special place for me because it has an enormous indoor hot tub that you can reserve in advance. We had two days of hiking in the awesome next-door national park and, after 8-10 hours of stomping about, could walk right in and luxuriously soak in the tub with a bottle of wine.

For the room, they have blackout curtains that work great...key when the sunrise is at 5.30a and dinners usually end at midnight.

Tip from a pro: You can get eggs and bacon with breakfast for free...but it's not advertised and you have to ask. Seems it should be more prominently displayed.

Room Tip: Be sure to reserve the hot tub for after your hike!

We stayed at Rancho Grande hostel. This hotel is a few feet away, so we showed up and asked to the recepcionist if they could show us the place. They did, and I have to say that is it really nice. Somehow out of our budget in this trip but definitively our choice on a next trip.

My husband and I stayed at Destino Sur for two nights after three days camping in the mountains. Perhaps it's not fair to compare our tent accommodations amidst the windstorms of Fitz Roy to the nicest hotel in town, but our stay exceeded our expectations! We walked into the hotel, dirty, disheveled, and reservationless, but the gentleman at the front desk was extremely welcoming, gave us a good rate (even allowed us to check it against the online rate), and got us into the room quickly. They front desk was also very accommodating when we wanted to change rooms because we didn't like the view.

Overall, the staff is extremely professional and friendly; many North American hotels can learn from the service offered here. Additionally, we loved the private use of the sauna, jacuzzi, and workout room, and the breakfast is great -- it's the best we've had in Argentina because the chef actually knows how to cook eggs!

Definitely would come back for the friendly service, comfy & spacious rooms, and great amenities.

We stayed at the Destino Sur for two nights during a tour of Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil. Although this is a fairly small hotel, there is no doubt it was the best one we stayed at throughout our holiday. The staff were very friendly and efficient and the rooms, though not large, was very very clean and comfortable. The views from the front of the hotel and from the room window of the nearby mountains were very attractive. El Chalten not being a very big town, the hotel was only a few minutes walk away from the centre, so it was very handily placed. There was not a great variety at breakfast but what there was was excellent - and it was the only place where we could get fried eggs as opposed to scrambled eggs!

However the real find of this place was the dinner. On our first night there we were fairly tired after along journey so we decided to eat in rather than go out into El Chalten. It didn't look very promising as all they seemed to be advertising was a bar menu. We went down to the bar and there was no-one there. We strolled along to the restaurant, not expecting to find anything but there was a waitress standing in there although there were no customers. It was now 10:00 and we asked if they were doing dinner and she said yes. We were given a menu, which consisted of just four or five dishes. I chose the fresh river trout and my wife chose the rack of lamb. While we were waiting for that to arrive a large plate of bread was served up together with a number of dips. When the food arrived it looked quite stunning. The presentation was excellent, but, even better, the food itself was absolutely delicious, the best meal we had all holiday and we did stay at several much more expensive hotels and go out to some first class restaurants. It was worthy of a top London West End restaurant. The Destino Sur wants to make sure it keeps hold of its chef!

Well positioned in this "wild west" town.
3 years old, nicely equipped with helpful, efficient and friendly staff...nothing seemed like too much trouble. They were knowledgeable about the walks, and local amenities.
Our room was very good, with comfy bed and modern bathroom...even BBC world news..a first after 4 weeks in Argentina.
Stay here it looks like the best hotel in town.
Spa is booked in advance and for your personal and sole use.. very good it is too.

Room Tip: Get an upgrade room if you can.
