Full-disclosure: We never ate a full meal here. We did however, stop here after every day hike for empanadas and red wine. The empanadas were delicious (especially this lamb empanada/calazone type dish). The service was great - we had a super friendly and helpful waitress who spoke perfect English and did a great job recommending off the menu and wine list. This place is a must-try in Chalten. It's very small though, so if you're going for dinner, be sure to make a reservation.

Thank you Lonely Planet for reviewing this place. Awesome tasty food and great service! We went two nights in a row and the spring onion soup, pork and tenderloin dishes were right out of any 5 star restaurant in NYC.

Like many eateries in El Chalten, this place is tiny and rustic. The service is interesting but ultimately fine. The food is noteworthy. Two had the excellent lamb ravioli, two had the local meat and bean stew. We shared two great bottles of Trumpeter Malbec (which we saw in a restaurant in El Calafate for 3 times the price). This place is a cut above the other restaurants in town

When you walk in, you'll be certain you've stumbled into the wrong place. Six tables and a two-seat bar, with drink specials prominently displayed. The tattooed waitress will plop the menu in front of you, pointing out the half-dozen things they are out of. Don't panic, just order one of the dozen things still left, perhaps the trout or salmon, or one of the four or five lamb dishes. The pumpkin cream soup with sage won't disappoint, nor willl the lamb in Calafate (think marionberry) sauce. And be sure to have one of the fifty wine choices or one of the twenty beers. And just wait. The lamb Calafate was US$19 and came with foil wrapped potato cubes in herbs and a rice and grilled vegetable garnish that was worthy of a place with white linen tablecloths and a sommelier. Even the bread was indescribably special' swabbed with butter before being baked on site.
Best of all, this place is owned by one of the cooks, and attended by a staff that obviously enjoys working there's if the laughter coming out of the kitchen is any indication'
