El Chalten is a very small town approximately 2-2.5 hours from El Calafate. Upon arriving at Hotel La Aldea we were greeted warmly by Eduardo. Eduardo speaks both spanish and english. The lobby area is a nice place to hang out since they have a small bar with all types of liquor, coffee and tea. They have 2 computers available for use at all times. The rooms were cute, although small, it was enough for the purpose of staying 2 nights there. The bathroom was small. The rooms have Directv in them, which was a plus. The breakfast was good, it had a good selection of pastries, breads and cereals. They also have juices, milk, tea & coffee. Eduardo turned out to be extremely kind and helpful when planning our hiking trips. He has a 3D map of the trails and he shows you exactly how long and where to go to begin your trip. We did the trip to Fitz Roy but unfortunately Mother Nature was not on ourside that day so we only ended up hiking a total of 4 hours round trip. I would highly recommend this hotel is staying in El Chalten!

We stayed at this hotel in April 2012 for 3 nights. We had an upstairs room, which was simple & small, but clean. The bathroom was tiny though. Breakfast selection was good. Eduardo from reception was a really cool guy, very helpful....and funny! He spoke English very well. We enjoyed staying at this hotel.

Room Tip: I think the view of Fitz Roy is better from a room upstairs.

This small hotel is very reasonably priced. We came in the off season. Eduardo speaks excellent English and gave us more information than the information center. The lobby is a nice gathering place with a bar with an excellent selection of whiskey, wine and expresso. The accomodations are nice and the breakfast is hearty. We came to hike. The weather was iffy, but Eduardo gave us precise information on the weather and where the best hikes would be for the weather, with lots of suggestions that all worked out so well. He also lent us hiking poles and made phone calls to our next destination to help us plan for El Calafate.. We highly recommend this friendly helpful hotel.

Just spent two nights here as a base for hiking nearby. It did the job with clean but small rooms, full cable tv, wifi accessible from the rooms, a cosy communal lobby area and a great breakky including cereal and fruit to fill up on before hiking.

Friendly staff always happy to help and let u hang out in the common area if your bus is later in the day.

Reviewed January 31, 2012

I stayed at this hotel as part of a small tour group in January 2012.

I had a room upstairs and it was great. Decent size room with tv with full cable (unusual for Chalten) and a good bathroom (with hair dryer). The room had an amazing view of Mount Fitzroy and the free wifi signal was strong. The only drawback for me was I kept hitting my head (hard) on the wooden roof beams - a minor annoyance. Access is by external stairs, but that was fine. No in-room safe.

The rest of my tour mates had downstairs rooms and they didn't have a great experience. The single beds were not as wide as a proper single beds and the shower was not sectioned off from the rest of the bathroom (which meant that water ran everywhere and had to be wiped up with a squeegie). As a result, they were very happy to move on.

On the positive side, the staff were lovely and we loved the reception/bar area. They served great tea (try the Inti Zen when you are there) and had a couple of computers for guest use. The breakfast was basic (standard in Patagonia), but perfectly fine. The packed lunches (for hiking trips) were also perfectly fine.

If I hadn't heard what my tour mates thought of this hotel, I would have highly recommended it. I guess the trick is to make sure you get an upstairs room (but i don't know if all upstairs rooms are like mine - I had the one furtherest from the stairs).

Room Tip: You definitely want an upstairs room - as discussed in my review, that may make all the difference t...

The rooms are clean, comfortable and with a great view, but are really small. The reception desk and breakfast area are in a different building, so you have to face the weather to do anything. Half of the rooms are upstairs, with a terrible access by narrow stairs. They could have put me downstairs, because I was with a baby, and it was really uncomfortable to move in or out the room.

Breakfast was excellent. The hotel has some trekking poles to borrow.

Room Tip: Choose a room downstairs and close to the lobby.
