We had a group of 11 and had 3 nights there. Can't complain about much and we all enjoyed our stay. Heater worked fine, shower pressure & hot water was fine, beds were comfortable and the place was very clean. Yes, breakfast was toast, excellent croissants, tea or coffee, the urbiquitous cheese and ham and cordial which is what you get in this type of accommodation in Argentina. They had no problem with us using their fridge for storing perishables so we had our own cereal and milk. The owners couldn't have been more helpful. One day our trek was postponed for some hours due to rain and they let us have our picnic lunch in the dining area, so we cleaned up to help them out. Evening drinks (our own!) in the common area was welcomed and we could buy beer from them at low prices. Location was about 1 km from the centre...hardly need a car to get down there, but there a fine places to eat close by anyway.
All in all would stay there again.

We (2 adults, one 14 year old) stayed for 3 nights in April 2009. We were the last guests prior to the hostel closing for winter. We had a 3 bed room in the newer part of the hostel. It was big (good), but sparsely furnished. The heated floor was good, while the low water volume coming out of the shower not so good. The beds and pillows were not comfortable. We know el Chalten is expensive, but something more than orange cordial, toast, jam and coffee would be appreciated for breakfast, especially given the most guests are heading out for some energetic activities. And there are no guest kitchen facilities - not even tea/coffee available after breakfast - unless ordered. Mostly it was the skimpy breakfast that gave us the "inadequate value" perception. (especially after having stayed at the fantastic Posada Palermo just prior - see our other review). Maybe it was just because it was 'end of the season', but the staff seemed unmotivated - most things a chore. Glad we had a rental car because the posada is up the top end of town - about a kilometer from the main shopping area. If on foot, a bit inconvenient to pop out to eat etc. But hey, the scenery around el Chalten is so overwhelmingly fantastic maybe all the hostels feel it OK to underdo the accommodation! Don't miss visiting this awesome location!!!

I booked this hotel for New Year Eve after reading very positive reviews in Le Guide du Routard. I was looking for a cosy and welcoming hotel to spend New Year's Eve with my boyfriend.

They charge 270 pesos for a double room, which is approximately double than what we paid for the rest of our trip. But we wanted something nicer as it was a special day.

In the end, the room was big... but super cold! Strictly nothing else than a bed and a bench. No doors on the closet. No decoration on the walls. No TV. This was very clean, but why charge that much for so little?

We were so disappointed that we decided to go and look at other hotels in the village. ALL rooms with same standards were no more than 200 pesos. We ended up cancelling our reservation, explaining the reasons to the hotel. The manager reacted very agressively.

We ended up spending the first night at in.land.sis (200 pesos, very clean, extremely nice staff) and the second one at Kauleshen, who gave us an amazingly comfy room for 250 pesos, with indoor pool!
