“Perfect After a Long Hike!”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

My husband and I typically go for more budget hostels/hotels, so for us, Kau Si Aike was a bit of a splurge. We figured that we would want a very comfortable and warm place to stay after lots of hikes in the area and we were extremely happy with our decision!

First, Patricia is the friendliest, nicest, and the most enthusiastic hostess! Even though we only know a few words in Spanish, we were able to communicate with her - sometimes through some comical miming - as her English is pretty good (she was taking lessons during our stay so it's probably going to continue to get better). She helped us set up a great horseback ride, got our laundry taken care of, kept us updated on the weather each day, and directed us to the best way to get started on hikes. In particular, we were glad she advised us to start the Laguna de los Tres (Fitz Roy) hike at Hosteria Pilar.

The location of the hosteria is itself close to the bus station (about a 10 minute walk) and near the center of the town. The rooms are simple, very clean, large and thankfully warm, and the bed was comfortable. More importantly, there is plenty of hot water for the showers. We also liked the fact that there was a large area set aside for luggage, changing, etc.

Breakfasts were among the best we had on our two week trip. I could eat a whole loaf of Patricia's homemade bread, and probably would have felt more shame in eating as much of it as I did, if she didn't happily offer more slices every time my plate was empty. Her homemade cakes are just as delicious and there's plenty of coffee, tea and OJ to power you through your hike.

Wifi is free, but we had trouble with our connection. I had read though, that wifi is generally not the best in El Chalten. We were also told, apologetically, that the connection would be very slow. Not a problem for us as we came here to disconnect anyways.

All in all, this may not be the incredible deal that we typically look for, but we'd definitely return and would highly recommend for anyone who wants to know for sure that they'll have a hot shower, warm room, delicious breakfasts and incredibly sweet and friendly hostess to greet them after a long and tiring hike.

Have to agree with previous reviewers that Patricia the owner made the experience wonderful. She kisses you on arrival, hugs you on departure, and smiles and greets you every time you run into her. She makes an assortment of homemade cakes and bread for breakfast. The rooms do not have extra decorations, but are spotless, comfortable and quiet. We comfortably slept our family of five in the two floor suite, although could have easily added 2 more in the futon on the main level.

We stayed at Kau Si Aike for 4 days and absolutely LOVED it!

Patricia, the owner, is one of the nicest people we have ever met, she was simply outstanding in every sense... kind, caring and patient, she would spend hours talking to the guests, telling them about the insights of El Chaltén, which walks to do (she gave us the best recommendations), what life is like there, etc. Every day she would prepare another cake for breakfast, they (together with her home-made bread) were all so good that it is no wonder that she is becoming famous in the little town for her culinary skills.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the best thing was the view we had from our windows. It was a real pleasure to wake up everyday and encounter that marvelous landscape. Also, the Kau Si Aike is very conveniently situated: it is only a couple of blocks away from the start of all the trekking walks, the best restaurants (such as La Tapera, which we absolutely loved), the supermarkets, etc.

If you want to feel at home, don´t think about it anymore and stay at Kau Si Aike, where excellent hospitality can be found!

We stayed 3 nights in the place and really enjoyed how we where welcomed. The breakfast is really good. The room was quiet and clean but it was not a great room. And the price of the room is really too expensive for what it is.

We liked everything about Kau si Aike! I don't think we have ever had a better experience at a bed and breakfast, hotel, or other lodging. At the moment we walked in the front door, Patricia warmly greeted us. We planned on backpacking our first night in El Chalten, and Patricia allowed us to store some luggage at Kau si Aike until we checked in the next afternoon so we wouldn't have to lug it all with us. We noticed many small things that set Kau si Aike apart from many other places we stayed in Chile and Argentina, like having bathrooms (with toilet paper!) off of the common room, having a larger (not micro) garbage can in our room, having an open area in our room to store luggage/gear so we didn't have to trip all over it, and having a side table with stools/chairs in our room so we could sit and plan/eat. The hot water was hot, the room was quiet, and we could keep our key when we left. Patricia also went out of her way to help us with planning our hiking and exploring activities, spending a lot of time just talking with us and letting us ask questions. Breakfast included generous portions of food, and more importantly of coffee! We thoroughly recommend Kau si Aike after spending two nights there!

Patricia is managing a nice small hotel in El Chalten.
we had a two floor apartment with kitchen, and two rooms
All very clean and comfortable.
The price was reasonable

But the best thing in the hotel was the service. Patricia is so nice and welcoming that you feel as a family as soon as you step in.
she has recommendations, explanations and deliver immediate service for every request with a simile and motivation.
We enjoyed our stay very much
