“Quiet place unless a tour bus is there”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

We arrived at the Carcross Desert and there were only a couple of cars parked there. We took a short hike to take in the scenery and the mountains and the unique clouds were neat. A tour bus pulled up while we were there and the noise level went up and some of the people were on the annoying side. We sensed that some people on the tour buses weren't happy with the time allotted at their various stops. Anyhow, we thought this was a good stop to see the scenery.

“Desert in Yukon Region ??”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

We landed in Skagway on cruise ship and took a Tour to Fraser and Carcross in British Columbia. The tour bus driver told us that we will visit Carcross desert so I thought nothing much of same. But when we reached there the place was really looking a desert.Only thing missing was desert Temperature and the area of desert was actually limited. We walked around the place on fine sand to some distance. We were able to enjoy the place as our driver was always ahead of big tour buses so 12 of us were able to enjoy most of stops including this fully.

“Mini Desert in the Yukon”
Reviewed September 10, 2013

We stopped by Carcross Desert on the drive from Skagway to Emerald Lake. It was a nice area to stretch our legs and enjoy a change of scenery. I will agree with others about the congestion when the tour buses come. Only one port-a-potty had a working door when we were there.

“A quite place to take a break”
Reviewed September 7, 2013

Not worth a special trip, but if you need a break while travelling through it is a nice quiet place to take a walk and enjoy some sand. It's one of those small attractions which adds to the allure of the area to people going to bigger attractions or events.

“1 Sq mile desert in the Yukon”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

Carcross was the actual spot where the CARibou would CROSS in their migration. The village is very old and quaint. The walking tour is self guided. The desert is phenomenal!! We were at the desert in July 2013, unfortunately it was raining so we did not go walking too far. A friend lives about 6 miles north of here and she takes her kids with their crazy carpets in both the summer and winter. The kids have a grand time sliding down the dunes. You've got to see it to believe it. The toilets are just that. If you can remember what a well built outhouse looked like, these are well built, but not looked after too well.
