“book a table in the restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 8, 2012

my fiance had Roast Chicken Supreme with a Wild Mushroom, Black Pepper Marsala Cream
Sauce, Sauté Potatoes & Green £13.95

the sauce was divine. we couldn't book a table in the restaurant as it was over subscribed, and finding a table in the pub area was a chore. we initially had a table by the window - very draughty, then i managed to change to a table in one of the back rooms - unfortunately so hot that we ate our food rapidly and left due to simply overheating. this was a shame as to have been able to relax eating our meal would have been lovely. the food was great, the bar staff very helpful, the waiting staff were not able to help us with relocating however and did not seem to have any idea when people would be leaving their tables. (which i found weird) also when we relocated we were left with all the glasses from the previous diners on our table (not good). if i went again i would try to ensure that i had a restaurant booking.

“Welsh gold”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 29, 2012 via mobile

What a find! This Inn has it all. Set in the heart of the beautiful Brecon Beacons and while clearly used to catering for holiday crowds I still found this to be a charming place, full of character while also setting high standards in terms of pub service, food and quality of staff. Low beams, wood fire giving smokey aroma, good range of beer and an eclectic menu which caters for all.
I ordered Moroccan lemon chicken with charred vegetable couscous finished off with Masala Figs with a fig ice cream. With small glass of wine it was less than £20. The price offset by having to go to the bar to order, even between courses. Table waiting staff will only deliver food. Lemon chicken was excellent; full of flavour and beautifully presented, as too the figs and fig ice cream. Wine by the glass is limited, it would have been good to have had a sweet white wine with the masala figs, but hey, this is a pub with a good range of beer. I will be back!

“Really good food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 27, 2012

We ordered the two most unadventurous items on the menu (lasagne and also f[a]ggt[o]s and peas). However the taste of both was amazing! I genuinely think I ate the best tasting homemade pork f[a]ggt[o]s that I had ever eaten. Service was OK (nothing special) but the quality of the simple food was brilliant. Good job. Note: TripAdvisor does not allow me to use a "profanity" [hence the f[a]ggt[o]s].

“Just wonderful - every time!”

Ah, the Bear! Cosy, romantic, historic, food to die for. What more is there to say? Okay, they're making me say more, so I'll just say that the cauliflower and potato cake thingy is sublime. Can I go now?
