Golly I was very surprised to read Alan C's review. I guess people have such varied expectations but it was particularly interesting to read because we were there the same weekend.. I feel therefore compelled to write a review since our thoughts are so massively to the contrary of Alan's!!
This hotel is glorious. The owners and their staff particularly make this place so special. They care passionately about every guest. We felt so well looked after despite their being very busy with a fun looking private dinner in their private dining room and a wedding celebration the following day.. Being a couple on a romantic fishing weekend getaway, I was amazed that they managed to so effortlessly make our stay feel as important as the events going on and we never felt overlooked.
The house itself is beautiful. It feels like you are a personal guest in a private house. It is this charm that makes the place so special. We loved the little details, retro Roberts radios in every room, gorgeous decor, comfy beds, STUNNING views from every window.
The food was delicious, we were so impressed. I had the lamb that night like Alan C did and can only say that I imagine it would never occur to the poor waitresses to offer a steak knife? It was so tender I could have used a butter knife!
As for stairs... There is only the most heavenly sweeping staircase that makes you feel like lady of the manor as you swish down them for supper and a delicious drink in their welcoming cosy fireside bar!
Now I mentioned fishing... Beautiful stretch of water, so peaceful and usefully for my rubbish casting, plenty of open banks so I didn't spend the usual hours detangling my line from the trees!
We didn't catch anything.... But I never do!
Hugely reccommend the Gliffaes for a romantic getaway, or just a yummy supper, or even tea on their terrace overlooking one of the best views I have ever seen from a hotel terrace. Can't wait to come back...
