What a dissapointment took some Brasilian visitors for sun lunch . Had too squeeze past the locals who were at the bar, was served for our meal by a very rude landlady whose patience was much to be desired
when we did manage to get to the bar the landlord could barley tear himself away from the locals to serve us, there was no acknowledgement from him whatsoever. Food was ok but the presentaion of squashed up vegetables on a serving plate was much to be desired. We spent a lot of money there so some civility would be nice. Our visitors who had been travelling around Europe rated them 1 out of 10

On my travels through the area, popped in with friends and had a what I called a hairy biker meal - to be honest probably better refined cuisine than that, but very good.

Have stayed at the Bridge on two occasions at New Years and had an amazing night, great food complimented by friendly staff. The local people make an effort to mix.

We have visited many times since and enjoyed the food - there is allways a too much to eat yet I always seem to have room for the Wimberry tart for dessert.

Nice people and a great location , Thanks

Don't be taken in by the picture of the wonderful-looking period room on their website - the double and single upstairs rooms of the 'cottage' (in need of a good refurbishment) leave a lot to be desired for the price they charge. The upstairs double has no wardrobe or clothes-hanging facility (other than 4 hooks behind the door), so you have to live out of your baggage, and there's no space for that, other than by the side of the bed, so every time you get out of bed, you have to somehow negotiate all your bags...

There was no menu choice given at breakfast other than a full English (we were in Wales...) or 'any of the items in a full English'. Funny, the next day another waitress offered us scrambled or poached eggs, after I'd spied another guest having this on his plate.

We were asked if we would like to settle the bill on arrival (!), as we did not choose to book a table for dinner (go to the Dragon in the High St for a good menu, and Tapas Night on Thursdays at £10 per head).

The landlord/lady were not exactly welcoming, and we did not eat or drink in the pub based on personal knowledge of the area as well as the other reviews on Trip Advisor.

I'd certainly recommend the Dragon for both accommodation and food (and hospitality) - the only reason we didn't go there is because their 15 rooms (all en-suite) were all fully booked - not hard to see why.

I'd also recommend Ty Tal in New Road, just up from the Bridge End Inn - private B&B, excellent rooms, excellent breakfast menu, and a really friendly couple - much better value at £60 per night for a double, with private bathroom just across the hallway.

Didn't stay but called in for an end of walk drink/meal. As a group of walkers we regularly visit this area. The Bridgend Inn is situated next to the bridge over the Usk and seemed to be the ideal spot to relax after our exertions. Even though it was quiet we certainly didn't seem to be welcome and were dealt with in a very offhand manner. Beer prices not easily discernible and very expensive. Loads more pubs in the area that we'll use next time.
