We were staying in the area and this place was recommended for a good Sunday lunch. Although when we arrived there were no other customers, we had to wait about half an hour between the starter and the main course. We wouldn't have minded this as much if the temperature of the room had been a little warmer. We would have attracted the attention of one of the waitresses, had there been any around. They seemed to spend most of their time in a back room rather than waiting on customers. They were polite and friendly whenever they did make an appearance, and we felt the service we received was a reflection of bad management and training rather than any intentional disinterest. A little more direction from management would have ensured a more satisfactory experience, as the food, when it did arrive, was good.

We have stopped here for something to eat on several occasions and are never disappointed. Lovely fresh home made food in pleasant surroundings. The home made puddings are especially delicious and one is never enough.

My wife and I stayed at The Drovers Rest in LLanwrtyd Wells for one night on 24/6/2012. We were out for a drive, travelling from Swansea looking for a place for lunch. We stopped in LLanwrtyd Wells and chose The Drovers Rest, as it looked a very nice place.
We were not disappointed, the lunch was superb as was the service and ambience of this lovely restaurant. We could not fault it. My wife picked up their brochure and we read it at the table, so impressed were we that we decided to stay the night and have a nice day in the local area.
No luggage or any other trappings, we occassionally do silly things impulsively like this, after all life is for living isn't it.
Again we were very impressed by the friendliness and service offered by the staff and indeed, Mr James MBE, the proprietor and chef, was there to offer his extremely friendly help and advice.
The double en-suite room was tastefully decorated, very clean and comfortable.
We were still full after lunch so we did not have evening meal, however the smells permeating from the kitchen were mouth watering.
Breakfast was amongst the best I have had with all the food organic or locally produced.
Mr James himself served us for breakfast and is a very amiable man, who could easily become a friend. The breakfast was cooked freshly and was of excellent quality, beware the portions are not small here so go easy on the cereal, fruits etc on offer before your cooked breakfast arrives.
An impulse stay but are we glad we did so. We have found an absolute gem and we aim to return there as soon as possible.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room1 the double en-suite. We would pick this room again.
