The restaurant is set in the downstairs rooms of a large period house. After being shown to our table it seemed a bit cold, both in temperature and atmosphere but this changed as other diners arrived and the room filled up.
After ordering we experienced an over-long wait of half an hour for our starters and we got to the point where we had to ask how long they might be, as we were getting very hungry by then. Note to owner(s): if guests are experiencing long waits for food you could serve a portion of pizza bread slices or something similar just to take the edge off - it would have made a big difference.
However, once the starters did arrive they were excellent and I loved the deep-fried risotto balls stuffed with mozzarella, porcini, chilli and basil. I'm not sure why they were served in a brown paper bag but they were superb.
My main of Spaghetti con ragu Bolognese with homemade pasta was exceptional and I have never had such a delicious meat in sauce - truly memorable flavours. There were no complaints from our table about the quality of the food.
If I stayed in Fishguard again I wouldn't hesitate to go back.
