“In the pink!”
Reviewed May 8, 2017 for a stay in May 2017

Delightful cottage with gorgeous garden. We had a great time in Fishguard, such a magical place with really friendly folk. Everything we needed was provided at the cottage. Adise building a fire in the eve as it can get cold. Really would like to return one day.

“Do not rent”

The owners of this cottage need to realize that if you are renting out a property at roughly 100 pounds per day, that this type of money suggest that it is at least a 4 star rental and that the customer would expect no problems.

When we arrived on the 24th the first thing that amazed us was the smell of damp furnishing, there is one night storage heater in the front room, but this is not good enough to heat the whole front room let alone the cottage, so we then went around to turn the free standing heaters, when we did they all smelt of burning.

On then checking the cottage we found no inventary of the fittings and no record to show the electric readings,

The cottage was not clean we found cob webs everywhere in the cupboards and shower room and behind the furniture was also not clean.

We found no iron or hair dryer, which after phoning the agents was sorted, but this should not have happened in the first place.

I fully understand that this is a very old cottage and that damp proofing was not around in those days, but like I have already stated if your paying that type of money then you expect warmth, If I would have liked a damp and draft place then I would have asked for one.

Also on the 24th we had to go shopping as the place had no welcome pack or fuel for the fire.

The owner needs to spend some money on this place renew the draft curtains so that they cover the door ways, organize the cupboards, as we found tins of paint in with the cooking pots and pans.

A very very disapointing holiday which we had looked forward to for some time and this was all down to the rental.

Would you recommend this hotel to a friend?   No.

We are very sorry and surprised to hear that you didn’t enjoy your stay at Milkwood Cottage, particularly as on 31st December you called our office to extend your holiday by an extra night which we were happy to arrange for you. The cost for this property varies from £335 to £850 for a week and it accommodates up to 6 guests. We believe it is advertised fairly on our website and there are a selection of photographs to show the cottage off and offer guests the opportunity to see what is on offer.
When you telephoned our office on Christmas Eve you said that you couldn’t find the iron and also needed a hairdryer, both of which the caretaker immediately popped over to you. There was no mention of any dissatisfaction at this time. A hairdryer is not usually supplied (but will be from now on) and the iron was later found in a cupboard. It is not standard practise in a holiday property to provide guests with an inventory.
It is a great shame you didn’t mention your dissatisfaction while you were still at the property as any matters arising could have been dealt with immediately. You have only made any mention of these extra matters since we contacted you yesterday to ask for the (advertised) fuel charge you forgot to leave on your departure. There should have been an electricity record sheet in the property, we apologise if this was not found and have sent a new one over.
As a visitor from Spain, no doubt the cold and damp conditions in west Wales came as a bit of a shock. The owner supplies supplementary electric heating and an open fire as well as the night storage heaters to keep the chill off. Sometimes when these extra electric heaters have not been used for a while they do initially give off a burning smell which soon dissipates. These old cottages do sometimes have draughts and the owner has provided a large and heavy curtain to cover the exterior door which usually helps. Welcome packs are down to the owners’ discretion. When logs are supplied, it is mentioned in the property write up.
For any specific requirements, we are always happy to talk with our guests and help them find a property to suit their needs.
