“Average/good”
Reviewed April 26, 2013

Lovely location, excellent room, very good food. Most of the guests were in the 60s/70s age range and the very young entertainment team didn't cater for our age group. They weren't very good - none of them sang well, although on one night out of the four we were there a good comedian entertained us. The loud music belting out most of the day seemed to be aimed at teens/20 year old tastes ie the entertainment team, not the paying guests! Apart from that, we enjoyed our stay.

We didn't stay here but I did frequent the Spa facility and had a lovely facial using Decleor products. Very nicely presented treatment rooms with lovely , friendly Therapists. Reasonable prices. Would definately got here again if in the area. There was a lovely steam room and sauna. Swimming pool. There was also the Castle to wander round too with magnificent views. The gardens were well maintained even including an aviary with zebra finches ..plentyof wildlife and a squirrel or two.( and it also boasts a bowls green and tennis , Gym, snooker table)
Plenty to do and easy to get to other areas via A 55 expressway. Great location for exploring but very hilly so people who have difficulty walking be prepared.
Spa is located in Mulberry cafe which offers tea and coffee and cakes. I would love to stay here.

What I like about this chain is that there are no children - I love children but it is nice to have a KIDS FREE ZONE. There is plenty to do and the chain takes into account those of limited mobility as well as fully able bodied. The rooms are really spacious even the basic room and the bed is big and comfortable. The menu is wide and varied and what makes the chain good is that if one orders wine prior to eating then a discount is given of 10%, the only disadvantage is that the chain issues a charge card and as cash doesn't change hands - it is possible to run up a sizeable bar bill

Firstly the good comments..lovely and very helpful staff, beautiful historical buildings and gardens(we had a royale room no 603 which was beautiful (but had no double glazing so the howling wind kept us awake) Many of North Wales' attractions within easy reach.

Not so good comments..The website neglects to inform you that to reach the main rooms of the hotel, the restaurant, bars, leisure/spa suite and coffee house you have to walk outside so if the weather is poor you need a coat and umbrella all the time so there's no going from your room to the sauna and back in your nice fluffy dressing gown and slippers!

We were told that our room was only 120ft from the leisure suite but it turned out to be 200metres each way and as I have a walking disabilty I ended up having to use a wheelchair all the time.

I would say we were probably one of the youngest couples there, most being in the 70 plus bracket so we felt a little out of place being only 50 BUT...no kids allowed so that was great! If you enjoy evenings of singalongs with pub style entertainment artists and doing general knowledge quizes then you'll love this place. (We don't!)

The food served in the restaurant was ok but nothing special and the wine list limited and lacking in imagination. The restaurant itself lacked style and ambience...no tablecloths, tightly packed tables so intimate dining was impossible and the waiting staff, although lovely, seemed rushed and over stretched. To be honest I've stayed in several B&Bs with a better breakfast selection.

Overall the hotel seems to market itself as upmarket and luxurious but this was not our experience and the entire impression was one of a Butlins for the over 70's. So disappointing!

Room Tip: Upgrade to a signature or royale room as these have dvd players and some have jacuzzi baths so if yo...

We had wanted to try a Warner's holiday for a few years and we visited Bodelwyddan using Tesco vouchers. This meant that we only had to pay £50 or so in cash. Had we not used our vouchers and paid the full price in cash we would have been disappointed as it didn't really represent good value.
The location is, as we expected being Welsh, fabulous. The staff were extremely good, friendly, courteous and very well trained. The food was average and although the dining hall was clean and tidy it is very cafeteria-ish. An annoying feature was that as a table emptied the staff would move in immediately to clear and spray the table tops with no regard for diners that may still be eating in very close proximity.
A misleading fact in their advertising blurb is access to free wi-fi for those that require it. It is free, but only available in the reception area and not in any of the rooms.
Before going to dinner we decided to have a drink in the bar. As my wife and I made up 50% of the total number of people in there, on both nights, there was very little atmosphere and of course the drinks, as you'd expect, are very expensive.
The entertainment? On the first night the comedian was worthy of "Live at the Apollo". Really excellent. The second night relied on the resident, young local staff and although they tried their hardest they weren't very good at all.
My wife and I are both in our 60's and we felt we were in the wrong place. We enjoy young company and the majority of people when we stayed were in their late 70's. Perhaps we were a little unlucky as there were 2 coach loads of holiday makers staying at the same time. However the vast majority of people that were there did appear to enjoy themselves and so I'm sure my wife and I will again - but not for at least another 10 years or so.

Bodelwyddan was the second Warner hotel we had visited, Nidd Hall being the other. The castle is an imposing sight as it is approached and the scenery nearby is quite pretty. Our room, urgraded to a signature' room was more than adeqate for our needs and the sparse allocation of items on the hospitality tray was willingly replenished. The staff were unfailingly courteous and friendly and always willing to help with a smile.
On a holiday break such as this, certain standards may be expected and here we felt expectations were not always met. Whilst the dining room itself was quite welcoming and the waiting staff attentive, the food was of good quality rather than excellent. Service was good although coffee was not offered but had to be requested.
The entertainment room was not welcoming, consisting of a large and very old fashioned hall with uncomfortable seating. Whilst the visiting stars, Foster and Allen, put on an excellent show, the resident entertainment staff were a different proposition. Young, attractive and keen and enthusiastic but experienced? I would say not. Microphone technique had clearly either not been taught or perhaps just not mastered. Announcements and questions during quizzes etc. raised many a 'what did she say?' type query. The 'm/c' although in possession of a nice voice fell into the trap of having the volume turned up to the 'diabolical' level. In addition, drinks were very expensive indeed for this captive audience.
The experience overall was not quite as enjoyable as that at Nidd Hall but clearly Warners are very good at keeping OAPs happy. At 72 and 73 we felt that we weren't quite ready for the experience. Many visitor were though and the owners deserve congratulations for providing what is clearly wanted by a great many visitors. More strength to their corporate elbows may they have even more success!

Room Tip: Ask for what you need such as 'easy access' etc. the staff and management are very obliging.

We have been back to Bodelwyddan Castle run by Warners for another long weekend and the food was just as good as before. Very varied and well prepared. The Signature Rooms are very clean & tidy but most of all, we went to be entertained....and we were! This time it was the popular Irish duo [but with a full band] Foster & Allen and although they seem to have been around forever, they are still only the same age as the audience. What does that tell you?
