Owner description: Barmouth developed as one of the major ship building centres in Wales during the 18th & 19th centuries. The harbour still has a small fishing industry but is mainly used by pleasure craft. The estuary is home to Merioneth Yacht Club. Lining the edge of the harbour are cafes, ice-cream parlours and a pub with pleasant gardens to sit out in and watch the world go by.

“Barmouth Harbour”
Reviewed August 16, 2014

Went camping for 7 nights near by so went into Barmouth almost every day. Lots to look at in terms of small quirky shops. A few good restraunts to go to. We went to the Anchor steak house (nice but expensive) and we went to the pizzeria next door. Both are by the railway bridge at the lower end of the town by the water side. Lots of places to go crab fishing at low tide which the kids loved. Local chip shop had a queue out of the door all day and night and it was excellent.

“Family budget orientated”
Reviewed August 13, 2014

very budget family orientated, though looking a little dated, but served a purpose, Caught a rather packed train from Aberdovey, considering its peak season , only 2 carriages on the train
All in all Barmouth is ok for a few hours, the beaches though are a winner, very clean

“gem of a museum”
Reviewed August 9, 2014

When you are in Barmouth then please make a little time to pop into this wonderful little museum just off the harbour. It is full of character, giving a fascinating insight to the towns` history. It is free, relying on donations and the volunteer guides are great to talk to, full of information. Also visit the Round House just a few metres away, this was the town `lock-up` in the 1800`s, men on one side and the other side for women!
