“Great service, lovely place and fantastic location!”
Reviewed July 11, 2010

One of the best places we've stayed recently.you cant really find a bad thing to say about it.the owners are lovely, always ready to help you.the food was tasty, fresh and delicious, rooms very very clean and cosy. the only downside was that you could hear everything from the rooms next to ours but that didnt spoil our stay at all. The location is one of the most beautiful in north Wales.Barmouth is just georgous. If you are thinking of going for a short break in north Wales, you should definitely stay at Bryn Melyn! Be prepared for a tricky drive up the steep hill...once you do it,you won't regret it!

The directions from David Brown, our host, were excellent. We found the guest house first time. Up a small and twisty road, but this is more than made up for when you reach it, half way up a hill side. Brilliant views across the Mawddach river. We were in room 9 - 2nd floor with a large window. The room was very comfortable, with enough storage space for our short stay. David warned us that as the room was on the top floor, the water pressure in the ensuite shower was low. This didn't matter though, as it is good enough for a freshen up and the separate bathroom on the first floor was fine. The guest house has a comfortable lounge and you are welcome to borrow the guides and maps. There is also a handy conservatory, great for removing walking boots, and if needed, wet gear. We were lucky, the weather was very good. This meant we were able to enjoy the sun terrace with a tea, coffee or drink (they are licenced). David and Heather leave food for birds, so there are always plenty of chaffinches, bluetits, robins, etc. who don't mind the guests a few feet away. As well as feeding the birds, the breakfasts were also excellent. Everything from cereals and toast to full cooked breakfast with, where possible, locally sourced ingredients. The bacon was very very good. All in all a good base for local walks, the town and longer outings. Just be prepared for the walk up the hill.
