“What a find”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 9, 2013 via mobile

Bryn Melyn is a superb guest house. Heather and David are friendly and efficient. Nothing is too much trouble. The decor is lovely and the rooms clean and comfortable. The food is delicious: lots of fruit as well as yogurt, cereals and the full Welsh breakfast. Food is locally sourced whenever possibly. We had three dinners and they were all excellent, with plenty to choose from.

The situation of Bryn Melyn is exceptional, on high ground above Barmouth, with amazing views from the rooms of the Mawddach estuary and the sea. Easily accessed from the garden a public footpath leads up onto the hill behind the house, where I enjoyed fantastic sunsets over Cardigan Bay. Definitely a guest house to return to.

Just returned from this beautiful B&B with my partner and dog. We stayed for two nights and will definitely be returning in the future.

The staff are very friendly, the rooms are spotless, the service impeccable and the breakfast was tasty too! (our dog even got some tasty sausages)

In the photographs, the views looked beautiful, and we were not disappointed! The owners are very helpful, giving advice on different walks you can take around the mountains and the local area - which is great when you have an energetic dog!

The bar in the evening was lovely, a great place to return back to after a walk around the town. You can take your drinks out onto the patio and look out onto the town below - its incredibly peaceful and the most relaxed we have been for a while. The local beer is definitely worth a try, you can even buy bottles to take home!

A very enjoyable break - recommended to people who love scenic walks with peace and quiet.

Thank you very much for your kind words and praise. We really do appreciate your comments. There are fewer and fewer places in the area that now welcome dogs so we are pleased that we can accept well-behaved pets in three of our eight rooms, (and I always make sure there is a spare sausage each morning for any canine guests...). It is good too that our pictures did not over-sell the view. I have had people tell me that they assumed the website exaggerated the view from most of the rooms but they have always then reassured me that if anything the opposite was true - that the pictures did not do justice to the reality! We are always pleased when the good weather arrives each year meaning our guests can sit outside and enjoy the tranquillity - greatly enhanced, as you point out, with a glass of wine of a bottle of local award-winning ale!

My boyfriend and i decided to stay here while on a mini-break. It was the views in the pictures online that sold it for us! So we were really pleased when we arrived and had Beautiful views from our bedroom. (Room 7)
Big windows and a Really comfortable bed. Perfect for relaxing and admiring the scenery.
Lovely room with all the amenities you could need.
It was very quiet and peaceful there- which was just what we wanted.
Breakfast was lovely! Great selection to eat and beautiful scenery and bird watching from the breakfast table.
Very friendly and helpful staff. They were able to recommend places to eat and things to do.
Would recommend it to anyone!
We stayed for 3 nights and left feeling very relaxed and happy.
Would love to stay again!
Thank you for a lovely time.

I stayed here for 5 days last week and what can i say about it, Dave and Heather have made this place one of the best places i have stayed in, If you want a spotless b and b then use this place, The breakfast is one of the best and if you like welsh lamb then try the evening meal with the local brew. All i can say now is thank you for looking after me like you did it was wonderful.

I was in a party of six motorcycle enthusiasts that used the Bryn Meyln Guest House as our base whilst we toured around the beauty of Snowdonia. The place is spotless, breakfast was excellent but what we didn't expect was just how good the evening meals would be. Then of course there is the well stocked bar full of locally produced ales and whiskies. Our original plan was to wander into Barmouth each evening for dinner and drinks. Instead we stayed in, ate like kings and had the odd tipple to boot. A lovely place run by lovely people. You'll enjoy it!

Room Tip: Try to get a view over the estuary

We seem to be attracting more and more group bookings and we have to say we thoroughly enjoy the dynamic that a group creates within the house. It was a real pleasure having you all stay with us and I am delighted you enjoyed your meals with us so much. It made for two very relaxed evenings and we look forward to your return next year.

Stayed here over Easter. It's in a lovely position in Barmouth overlooking the estuary. Very warm and friendly welcome. Had a lovely room, all clean and fresh, you can tell the owners take real pride in their business. Excellent choice at breakfast and the full welsh was made with quality ingredients.

Thank you for your positive review. You are right - we do take great pride in what we have achieved at Bryn Melyn and it is always good when guests recognise this. Our aim now has to be to maintain the standards we have set ourselves! I am especially pleased you enjoyed the local ingredients in our Welsh breakfast. Our butcher will be gratified to know his sausages and bacon are so favoured!

My husband found Bryn Melyn, and we loved it! David and Heather are a wealth of information when you have any type of question. Room and shower were very clean. Even though its a bit of a steep walk back from town, the view is spectacular! The town is only a 5-10 minute walk downhill. Glad we had parking since most B&b's don't offer parking. We loved the choice of Welsh breakfast and other dishes. We also had dinner one night there which we needed to reserve by 10am on the day. My husband had the delicious lamb and I loved the pork belly. I appreciated the fresh milk we had upon request which was refilled each day. Also David provided a thermos for tea as we went on a walk. Even though all the room only had a shower, there was a bath nearby which had a large selection of bath products. A note was on our bed to remind us of daily savings which i appreciated. My husband and I loved the bar and local beers served there. We definitely recommend this place and plan to return again!

Thank you for those warm words. We are delighted you found us and had such a good stay. The offer of fresh milk is a new service in response to some of the comments that have been made on here. We needed to be certain that if we provided a flask of milk that it would not go off overnight however we managed to find some flasks that are good for at least 12 hours and usually much longer so we have started offering fresh milk as an option and it is proving quite popular. I'm also glad you appreciated the parking as we have had comments about the steep access but we feel lucky to be able to offer parking for all our guests. As for the local beers - we love to feature local or Welsh produce wherever possible, but not simply because it's local or Welsh - it has to be good quality too. Fortunately the Purple Moose beers we run are not only brewed just 20 miles away but have also won multiple awards at national competitions and they are very popular with our guests.
We really enjoyed having you stay with us and look forward to seeing you again.
