“Gorgeous meal!”
Reviewed August 3, 2014

We were not staying in this hotel, but we were advised to come here for a nice meal by one of the locals.
We ate in the bar area, and were pre-warned when we placed our order at 19.40 that the order wouldn't even be started until after 20.00 as the restaurant was so busy.
Knowing we had a bit of a wait meant that we didn't get impatient - we knew we had a long wait, but we didn't mind.
My fella ordered a prawn and salmon starter, and he said it was utterly delicious - a large portion, and very generous on the seafood.
Our main courses were glorious - I had lamb shank with creamy mash, a rich and tasty gravy, seasonal vegetables and extra new potatoes. My boyfriend had a chicken dish that he said was delightful.
For pudding, I had a peach and raspberry meringue roulade, and it was fresh fruity and delicious.
For one starter, two mains and one pudding, it came in at just under £40, and we both said that it was one of the nicest meals we'd ever had. If we ever return to Barmouth, we will definitely return!

Arrived at the Min-y-Mor hotel Barmouth after a long and scenic drive through the Wales national park.Front of hotel is grassed and overlooks the bay,a good location for the beer garden. We did the same.Booked into the hotel and also booked in for dinner that night as the chef has a good local reputation.Comfortable room with excellent views.Breakfast adequate although a little regimented, probably owe this to staff personality.Hotel hostess is very obliging.

We stumbled upon this via a helpful lady whose hotel was full, she telephoned the Min-y-mor and reserved a room for us. Typical Welsh friendliness. The hotel is a busy place and when we arrived it was 27c and the front lawn was busy with drinkers cooling with a beer. The room was clean and adequate with a shower over the bath. Food was very good - it was Curry special night - we were hungry and were served very swiftly. The staff we found are all superb.
The hotel is a little dated but is very relaxing and we enjoyed ourselves. Plenty of car parking overlooking the sea

Ok so start off I want to make it clear that if my husband and I were travelling alone I would have given the hotel 5 stars, but because we had a baby and a dog and our evenings are now very different I've had to drop the overall rating.

So, the hotel is located at the quieter end of Barmouth - you have to drive through the busy Barmouth town to get here. Plenty of parking and perfectly located across the road from a mainly sandy dog friendly stretch of beach. Many people were with children playing on this stretch and it is less busy than the one further down into Barmouth. All the dog owners seemed really responsible with their dogs. The dog part stretches to the end of the sand dunes just before you get into Barmouth and there's some small signs telling you where it stops. I walked over the sand dunes onto the promenade and didn't get questioned by any lifeguard like others.

The hotel is a busy little hotel. Check in is 2.30pm and because we booked quite late and needed space for a travel cot (and all the family rooms were taken) we had a twin room at the side of the hotel (room 19). It was comfortable, clean, everything worked and had lovely views.

We had a drink in the beer garden which is located just over the road for the beach so has beautiful views. The picnic tables out there are very sturdy.

We had dinner in the breakfast restaurant as the main restaurant was full (as they recommend booking) and the bar was quite noisy for a baby. We sat on the table that corresponded with our room number. Well, the food was not what I expected...I don't know what I expected but it was amazing! Generous portions, well presented, a great selection (including fresh fish). We were so impressed with the food. We ordered a bottle of wine and as we didn't finish it we took it up to our room to finish it and put the baby and dog to bed (the high chairs are comfortable and good for small babies too).

This is where my rating falls down a bit...our room was so noisy. We were right above the bar and adjacent to the car park where there's a basket ball court. We were also right above the reception where people tend to congregate. We also had some neighbours who kept slamming the door shut and seemed to keep going in and out until 11.30 pm. Husband had to go out in his pants to tell them if they didn't mind to close the door rather than slam so they didn't wake the baby and the dog wouldn't keep barking every time. We didn't ask to move rooms as reception had already said there weren't any other rooms available but it was just unfortunate we were in such a noisy one. As I said if it was just the two of us we would have been up in the bar so wouldn't have been so sensitive about the noise but really didn't want baby to wake and then wake up the rest of the hotel!!

Check out was quite early at 10.30 but as the car park was right on site this wasn't an issue. Breakfast started quite late at 8.30 but this was fine. They had set the highchair up for us at our table which was great. Had a full English and there was a table with juice, cereals and milk also. The breakfast didn't quite live up to dinner standards but was nice nonetheless.

On our way back we visited the Blue Lake - an old slate quarry the otherside of the estuary which can be accessed by the toll bridge. Amazing experience - albeit a bit of a hilly walk but a real gem.

Overall really enjoyed our stay and it was just a shame our noisy neighbours and noisy room reduced our rating slightly.

Thanks for your excellent, honest and thorough review. We are really happy you enjoyed your stay and the room and evening meal. Sorry to hear it was slightly noisy we do hope this won't put you off future visits. Next time you book please ask for a quiet room we have ground floor or second floor rooms that are well away from the bar and reception.
We look forward to welcoming you again in future.

After reading mixed reviews I decided to see for myself and booked a two night stay. I think this hotel could be excellent if it has some improvements invested in, which I think is underway as decorating was happening while we were there.

We arrived on a very wet day, (one advantage is lots of on site parking), we were greeted by a helpful young lady who informed us where to go for the evening meal if we wanted it and how to find our room, she offered to help us with our bags which was very kind. We had booked a family room, booked last minute for two adults a toddler and a baby. Having read about the many stairs to climb and no lift I was slightly concerned as we were told we were on the top floor, but this wasn't a problem to carry the two children up stairs, I would guess in total 20 steps.

Our room looked like it had been recently revamped with fresh wall paper and new bathroom, the beds looked new as did the bedding. There was a big flat screen tv, kettle, with tea coffee milk sugar and biscuits. There were a few little things which could be improved, new carpet and new dressing table, the bath panel appeared to be coming off in one corner but these are only slight things and did not affect our stay at all (I was going to report this but had to leave rather hastily). The bed was comfy and a cot was provided with bedding for our baby.

We had an evening meal here which was FANTASTIC and very reasonably priced. The service was a little slow but worth the wait. The breakfast was a different matter (different staff) they did not seem to know what each other were doing, we were asked our order three times, and our tea/toast order likewise. We arrived 10minutes into breakfast and there were no glasses for juice left, again we asked twice for two glasses to be told they didn't have any left, there was no offer of any other drinking vessel so we used our tea cups! We had to laugh about this. The quality of the breakfast was ok.

Location: fantastic, cross the road to the promenade and beach, can walk with push chair easily to the harbour and town, don't think the location could've been better. We really enjoyed our stay, When I arrived home I realised the confirmation of booking was a lot more than I had been quoted, I emailed the hotel and was phoned within an hour with the explanation we were accidentally charged the top rate rather than the quoted amount. We were given an instant refund.
We will probably return in the future. Thank you

Room Tip: Get a sea view if possible as it's so beautiful

Thanks for your very thorough review. I am glad you enjoyed your stay and will pass on your compliments to our evening kitchen team. I was disappointed with your comments on the disorganised breakfast and have discussed the matter with the kitchen staff to try and avoid this happening again.
We look forward to seeing you again and hope your impression of the breakfast and service will be better next time.

Stayed here for three days, we have a three year old and a one year old. Lovely hotel with amazing view and amazing beer garden overlooking the beach and sea. There is a family room and games room for the kids which was a nice place for them to chill out in the main bar area. Staff very friendly. The lady in charge was lovely, always came and said hello and helped with what they could. The room we had was massive with a double and a double bunk bed cordoned off so we had privacy when kids went to bed. The only downside was no lift in the hotel, as we were on second floor and didn't want to keep taking the buggy up and down but it was safe to leave it in reception so not a big problem. We were also only a five minute walk from the town centre, which is very nice and there are a few things for kids to do like an amusement arcade with rides and a soft play place which is great.the beach is gorgeous, long long stretch of golden sand. Kids loved it. Was very quiet but that's what we wanted. Loved Barmouth.
