Bae Abermaw is a lovely old hotel set up a hill and overlooking the mouth of the estuary and coastline. The town centre is just a few minutes walk away. Reception staff are friendly and welcoming and the lounge room a great spot for drinks or just reading a book. An outside garden terrace overlooking the bay is nice for warmer days. We had a sea view room which was large and clean, though the carpet was stained in several places despite looking relatively new. The bed was comfortable but the furniture is cheap looking. Great views overlooking the coast but the windows only open a short way. The bathroom has a great shower/bath but the extractor fan wasn't working so became a sauna after a few minutes. There's no wifi in the bedrooms but it is available in the lounge area. Lots of positives about the hotel but I don't think the room rate represents good value - I'd expect better room furnishings, maintenance and wifi in the room for £110 per night. Breakfast was good too.

We spent one night there. Easy to find, this small hotel seats in perfect location with fabulous sea view. We were greeted by Ash, who was very friendly, polite and helpful. We had two twin rooms on the second floor and we were led there by the receptionist and showed around. The rooms are very basic, yet nice, bright, comfortable and clean. The real gem is a lounge downstairs with comfy sofas, music, fire place and great views. We ordered our drinks there and had a choice to have a meal there or in the restaurant. We chose the former and everything was arranged for us in a minute. The breakfast was very nice with a small choice from buffet and cooked meal. It was made to our liking. Overall, very nice place with fantastic views and very friendly staff.

Room Tip: No lift. No mobile phone reception. Wifi available in the public areas only.

The hotel is set part way up a steep hill, has fabulous views of the bay and is only a short walk into Barmouth. The staff were very friendly and helpful and breakfast was excellent.

Unfortunately the cleanliness and lack of TLC really lets this hotel down. In the room the paint was peeling off the walls in places and there were coffee stains on the kettle and desk. The window ledges and edges round the rooms were dirty and dusty with stains on the carpet in places.

With a lick of paint and a good deep clean this hotel could be excellent.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the bay

Pre arrival the scene was set. Ashely was excellent, accommodating and efficient. First impressions from the outside were also good. Gorgeous old building. Walking into the hall way was the first disappointment...dark and fusty smelling but as I said, old building and the receptionist was absolutely lovely as was the lounge area and dining room......no lift but only one flight of stairs for us - stair carpet needed a good clean. The room clean and bright but again smelt fusty and the bathroom, while nice, needed some serious attention to the grouting and sealing. The room is nice enough but very basic with cheap fittings and beds and definitely not worth the price charged. Again cannot praise the staff, well the receptionist, lovely lovely girl and Ashley highly enough. We decided to eat in the hotel as had heard great things about it. Starter was ok main was awful, re warmed chips cardboard fish...starter was lovely and veg was well cooked and to be fair the other diners seemed to enjoy their meals for the most part. I told Ashleymk2 who had been serving us of my concerns….he went to the kitchen and didn’t return to feedback (considering he couldn’t serve us fast enough to get us out and was clearly heard telling the chef “there about half way through the starter” then “they’re finished” – all this because a party of 12 was due in 30 mins after our sitting) - That put a damper on my day and I went up to the room to go to bed… then the night made it worse. Noisy until very late, very uncomfortable bed so i had no sleep and as i write this i am very tired and in a lot of discomfort and awaiting the much lauded breakfast This IS a lovely place but it needs some much overdue TLC. It wouldn't take long or cost a lot to spruce it up and then it would match the excellent staff and possibly be 5* plus. Between a rock and a hard place now as we do need to leave early to honour an unexpected but important appointment but may still have to pay full price for what (one night down 2 to go) is turning into an experience only saved by the great views and lovely staff……unnecessarily disappointing. However, I will probably rate things again before I leave…..can’t get any worse, can it!!

Room Tip: Pick a room overlooking the estuary - simply gorgeous!

We came here for a friends party. We booked two rooms, one with a sea view. Initial impressions were very good and the whole experience that followed was faultless. Our room had recently been refurbished and was certainly to our liking and very comfortable. Sitting out on the lawn, having a drink in the sun, overlooking the coast was a delight. We had a great party and the breakfast the next morning was a perfect English (Welsh) breakfast. Would most definitely stay again.

Overall our stay was great the hotel staff on the whole were very friendly and helpful. On our first night we ate in the restaurant the food was really good! Its in a good location near the the shop beach restaurants. There only a few little things that need to be worked on and that's things like cleaning stayed 4 nights and beds were never changed. Our room was in need a little TLC and a good clean in the bathroom, we drank the hot chocolate on the seconded night it was never replaced, we had biscuits on the 1st night also never replaced. Overall was great! Just need to pay a little more attention to detail.

A little pricey at £140 per night, but amazing bedroom and bathroom views, fresh egg breakfast and good service. see pictures, I was impressed by the views of the seafront. The bed was really comfortable. The breakfast was delicious. Bedroom decor is clinical but works. Immaculate communal areas. This independent delivers. A return.
