As a number of other guests have commented, this hotel is not worth the money - it seems to have been "renovated on the cheap" and actually not fully renovated either since we had a very old room that was frankly pretty disgusting.

There were stains everywhere on the carpet, the two blue "velvet type" armchairs by the window had nasty stains on, several window panes were cracked, there was horrible mould in the bathroom which again had cracked tiles and the most horrendous mastic mess around the basin. The blinds in the bathroom were also broken and stained.

There was a small tv and tea making facilities but really they were pretty pointless because you wouldn't want to spend any time in the room.

All in all, there is honestly nothing good that I can say about our room. It was horrible.

The hotel itself is in a nice spot with a great view overlooking the sea and as other guest have also commented, it has potential.

We just felt ripped off because what they advertise is not correct. When we complained to the man at the front desk he said that they'd just taken over the property in the Spring and that they were renovating the place but there were a few rooms still to do. That's fine - and good luck to them - but honestly, charging full price for a crappy room and then expecting us to think it's ok because they haven't gotten round to the room we're in is, just isn't ok.

Dear Guest, it is true that we are still working on improvements to the hotel. In December all sea view rooms were fitted with new double glazed windows. The old windows were draughty and only single glazed.. However, the room you occupied seems to have more problems than is acceptable and I can only apologise for your disappointing stay with us. I would advise any guest with a problem or concern to ask to speak to the manager. If you would care to contact me I would be happy to discuss this further with you.

My wife and I stayed in November and were generally very pleased. Staff were all first rate as were the lounge and dining areas. Our room was warm and comfortable, with a fantastic sea view. Very large bed again comfortable. The only minor down side was the en-suite, there were a couple of tiles starting to come off the wall, not a major issue nut a simple fix for the hotel. We would and will stay there again. The location for town is perfect with just a short walk.

Myself and my wife booked this hotel as part of a mini road trip around North and Mid Wales. Wow, what a find, by far our best Hotel of the week. Really friendly staff, Jackie & Ash, beautiful sea view room tastefully decorated. Nice and bright with a view to die for. We stayed in Room 3 and will be requesting this when we return. Huge comfortable bed, from which we both had a great nights sleep. Lovely en-suite with bath and shower. Nice little sitting area with two comfortable chairs and a little table to put our wine glasses on. We had planned to go out for the evening, but after a nice bottle of wine in the lounge decided to have a meal in the hotel. Really good quality food and the service was exceptional. We returned to the lounge to polish off more wine listening to music from the vast selection available to guests to listen to. Great hotel with first rate staff minutes away from Barmouth and possibly one of the best Hotel views in Wales. Can't wait to return.

As some other guests have commented, this place appears to have been "renovated on the cheap" and is not really worth the advertised prices despite the views (anything up to £90+). Thankfully, we got a discount voucher for this booking, so fairly happy to pay what we paid...however we booked a double and got a family room instead, which isn't really a massive problem in itself, but as a couple, we didn't need an extra bed. Instead, we would have liked a room with chairs to sit and appreciate the view as this is what the picture shows on the website with which we booked through. Sometimes you feel bad to be asked to move though - they probably would have moved us.

Our main issues are with regards to the furnishings of the room...

The furniture is very generic and appears to have been bought in bulk and wouldn't be out of place in student halls (although it is sturdy stuff). The rooms are very very white and lacking in character, just a few more homely touches wouldn't go amiss; a patterned/coloured duvet and some more artwork perhaps?

My main gripe though is the tired, stained carpets throughout the building - not really acceptable.

I don't want to sound like I'm moaning for moaning's sake as this place does have the potential to be WONDERFUL...perfect setting and nice friendly staff. Bed was extremely comfortable too.

Please take note as we would like to come back.

Dear Guest
We unfortunately had 2 bookings come in at the same time for our last double and this is why we gave you a family room. Housekeeping should have made the futon back into a sofa, giving you somewhere to sit. Unfortunately this was overlooked and we can only apologise.
We are aware that the carpets are becoming very 'tired' and these will be replaced as soon as possible.
I agree that some people can find the room decor, which we inherited from the previous owners, a bit bland so we are gradually introducing some colour with cushion covers etc.
We only re-opened in March and have made many changes. We will continue to improve the hotel and hope that you will visit us again in the future to see for yourselves.
Kind regards,
Manager

This hotel has lovely views. Our breakfast was delicious. The rooms were quite plain but very clean. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. I would definitely stay again however I would expect the rooms to be of a higher standard considering the price.

The hotel is clean and the staff friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were very good, there was plenty of choice from the menu. The evening dinner menu was OK but could have done to be a bit more extensive so we ate out for most of the week. Our bedroom had a lovely sea view over the harbour.

Stayed here at the end of August & on the whole enjoyed our stay.
We were in Room 2 & the view from the room was beautiful. The breakfasts were very good, presented well with locally sourced ingredients.
The only problem we encountered was the shower which with would become scalding hot with no warning. I noticed that this had been mentioned in a previous review & is still a problem.
Barmouth & the surrounding area is lovely with lots to see & do.
A trip on The Ffestiniog Railway is highly recommended.
