This was our first visit to Skye and we booked Green Pastures based on the good reviews here. We had not really researched which area of Skye might be most suited to our taste and subsequently wondered if this cottage being in the Waternish area might be a disadvantage, but actually the opposite proved to be the case. It is a very special location yet easy to access all the main tourist must-see highlights. It is a totally peaceful place with an exceptional view over the sea loch to Uig on the Totternish peninsular from all the front windows of the cottage. I took panoramic photos of the dawn every morning as each was different and so stunningly beautiful. The cottage is equipped more like a home than a holiday rental and unlike many we have stayed in the heating was generously set up so we were cosy and warm. Kitchen and bathroom are virtually new and chairs and beds very comfortable. The provided towels were of such good quality that on return home we have ditched ours and bought the same brand! The tips from the owners about where to stock up on provisions before arrival and things of local interest were very useful. Overall we had an excellent week at Green Pastures. We noted in the Visitors' Book that several guests have stayed more than once and we will also definitely return one day.
We stayed at Green Pastures for the last week in September and we were very lucky with the weather. As we drove up to the cottage we both just loved the view and area walking into the cottage we knew we were going to have a wonderful week. The cottage was immaculate very clean and comfortable also looking around the kitchen I knew that I wouldn't have a problem cooking our evening meals as everything I needed was supplied. We had our small dog with us so I wasn't sure if there were any dog friendly places to eat out in the evening but to be honest after being out all day it was lovely just to come back and eat and relax in the cottage. There is Stein Inn a couple of miles away we went in there for lunch one day and they allowed our dog in (as long as kept on a lead) and lunch and staff wee all great. There are some lovely walks local to the cottage and the Isle of Skye has amazing scenery but you do need a car or other type of vehicle to get around. I would recommend Green Pastures cottage to anyone and also I have to say that Helen (the owner) was very quick in replying to my questions. Thank you Helen for you very friendly responses.
The cottage is very isolated which is perfect if you are looking for peace and tranquility. We couldn't fault the cottage: spotlessly clean, very well-equipped and a fabulous shower! The only 'down-side' was the fact that the 'nearby' (one-hour walk) to the pub and the other restaurant, although advertised as 'dog-friendly', didn't actually allow dogs when serving food. Which was the whole point of us choosing that location - so we could walk with our dog down to the pub and the shore in the evening, have something to eat and drink, and walk back. Shame, really, as it meant we had to do a lot of driving in order to eat out. But Green Pastures Cottage was lovely and we enjoyed our stay there - great wood-burning stove and fabulous being able to watch the sea eagles from our living room window (and from bed!). So thank you!
We loved this peaceful and cosy cottage with its beautiful panoramic views, and the sights and sounds of nature. It was remote but also in a location accessible for wonderful local hikes (including to a pub!) and nearby attractions (Dunvegan castle). The flat was equipped with everything we needed and more (good wifi, DVD player, great shower). It was a beautiful and secluded spot for our honeymoon and a great way to switch off and relax. A perfect week and didn't want to leave.
We have just returned from a very happy week's stay. What a find! The cottage is light and airy, making it feel larger than it is, with Helen's beautiful photographs on the walls. The log fire would make it cosy, if needed - but we were blessed with fabulous weather. It has a wonderful modern kitchen, with lovely lighting, all mod cons and everything one might need, and a super bathroom with a rain shower, which started my day perfectly. There are walks from the door or from a short distance away but, with no passing traffic, one is able to avoid the tourist crowds, tucked away in this peaceful corner of Waternish. The views from the living room and double bedroom are breathtaking! Apart from the views to Trotternish and the Ascrib Islands, we could see as far as the Outer Hebrides - I could have gazed forever! We saw eagles above the cliffs from the living room window. Books, DVDs, wifi are a bonus. We are intending to book again for next year! A big thank-you to the owners.
What a lovely comfortable cottage. Booking was so straightforward. The cottage had a folder containing plenty of useful information about the cottage and the surrounding area. Great peaceful location and wonderfully equipped. Amazing kitchen with various lighting options to suit your mood. Plenty of wildlife to see from the cottage including deer, eagles, cuckoos and numerous other birds. Perfect location for exploring the middle and north of Skye.
