“Stunning Holiday Cottage”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 24, 2012

This was our second visit to this lovely cottage. The views from the door will exceed any expectations, and the sunsets are spectacular. The interior of the cottage is lovely with a wonderful feature stone wall going from floor to ceiling. The kitchen is all you want. The bedrooms, especially the bedroom on the upper floor is lovely, with spectacular views of the loch from your bed. There is nothing negative that could be said about this cottage. Is it worth the cost ? YES it is. Will we be going back ? We have already booked a week's break next year. We love this cottage. The only down side is we heard a seal but couldn't actually see it.

Room Tip: The bedroom on the upper floor has views that take your breath away.

Need to recharge, revitalise and refresh? Then this is the place for you. Its very difficult to add to the very positive comments already given about the boathouse and the area but I will try. We spent a week at the house from the 13-20th October and had an absolutely fabulous time and came away recharged, revitalised and refreshed. The house is Superbly furnished and very comfortable and we loved the arts and crafts interior. The mezzanine area of the house where you can both sleep and sit on one of the three settees with three different outlooks to the loch was stunning. Waking up one morning with a view of a rainbow was delightful. We also loved looking out in the clear evenings to the stunning view of the stars from both the bedroom windows and the skylight. The communication with the owners before we went was first class and once we had arrived - we managed between us to surprise my husband with a birthday cake which was no mean feat (thank you to both Pat (the owner) and Carol (the caretaker) for helping me to organise this). Please don't be put off by negative comments on trip advisor by one couple it was not our experience at all and I would be the first to say if there was something that I was not happy with. There are plenty of things to do if you want to fill your time on Skye, with beautiful landscapes, stunning views of the lochs and the sea or you could just simply relax at the boathouse watching the world go by in the quiet, peaceful and stunning surroundings. Thanks for sharing your house Pat and David.

We stayed for one week in the Boathouse and i must say..........it was awesome!!!!! The House is furnished with great love and we felt really comfortable.
We looked for a House of relaxe and what we found was a treasure!!! This was absolutely the best house if ever been in my holiday, it was so clean and everything smelled very good!!
If you like beautiful landscapes, the sea, the wind, the wildlife, to relax and feel free, then are you completly right here.
At last thank you owner for everthing and we come back again!

If heaven was on earth it would be here at the Lochbay Boathouse.

If anyone reading this is looking for tranquility, privacy, calm and beauty, then this is the place for you!

Our family spent a glorious week exploring the sea side, loving the serenity, beauty and the seclusion of the peninsula.

Lochbay boathouse was most welcoming, comfortable, clean, congenial and most tastefully and beautifully decorated with gorgeous antique furniture, curios and tapestries from the Arts and Craft era. It was always enjoyable coming 'home' after a day exploring the island and this is exactly what it felt like...home!

Pat and David (owners) phoned to greet us and welcome us which added a personal and welcoming touch. Communication with them prior to our stay too, was first class. Details about finding the boathouse and instuctions for the use of the utilities within the house was excellent.

Carol (the caretaker) and her partner Charlie were fabulous as they were genuine, informative and friendly. They shared their ideas about things to do and special places to visit on the island. We were lucky to meet them and were most appreciative of their warmth and sincerity towards us.

Staying at the boathouse was like staying in our very own piece of unspoiled paradise in the world.

Thank you for the memories.

Our first visit to Skye and it didn't disappoint. The first view of the cottage as you head towards Stein is stunning. Perched on the edge of Loch Bay you couldn't ask for a better location. The views from the cottage are fantastic especially the four poster room where you can open your curtains in a morning and it looks like a painting with the loch lapping up against the cottage. The cottage is well furnished and comfortable and we didn't want for anything. We took kayaks and paddled to the nearby seal colony across the bay and the coral beaches seeing a sea eagle on the way. There are some lovely walks nearby and Stein itself has a great seafood restaurant and friendly pub with good pub grub. We didn't want to leave!

We stayed (for the third time) in Lochbay Boathouse in May 2012. We did not get the best of weather, but the boathouse itself is very much part of the holiday, and more than made up for the rain, hail and snow. We watched the weather from the comfort of the lfirst floor gallery, simply relaxing on the reproduction Corbusier sofas.

The owner's investment in the property, the decoration and furniture is obvious and it feels like a privilege to stay there: lovely views, a beautifully decorated house, with antique furniture and a very comforting stove - what's not to love ?

There is also the top quality Lochbay Seafood Restaurant and the Stein Inn just a short walk away,

The boathouse is warm, cosy and clean, and we heartily recommend it to any potential visitors. (Unless they choose the week we next want to go there.)

We spent a wonderful week in mid-April at this house and its beautiful landscape.
The location is unique and one must consider, however, that being that far out in the country is not comparable with the comfort of 5-star hotels, offered in a large city. Expecting that would neither be realistic, nor would it be possible. Everything is there for your comfort, if you are expecting a high class self-catering accommodation.
All rooms are tastefully decorated, everything clean and tidy for you to feel good.
Hard to believe, but wireless works well here, television and telephone anyway.
Initially we had some trouble getting the house warm because the walls were still cold.
But this problem was solved after a few hours or heating. The fireplace is probably more a fun- factor and for comfort than for real heating. Therefore it is too small. But it is very nice in the evening to sit around the stove and look into the fire. Only the wood should not be stored outside, but in the house. Even if it´s not raining, the wood can get wet with the moist air by the sea. In that case, I would suggest that you get a bag of ready firewood (5 pounds) at a gas station.
The oil heating is not completely odor free and also the burner a little loud, so it is recommendable to program the timer for the heating to switch off over night. This works fine. Everybody who has an oil heater in the house is familiar with those little tweaks.

The beds were a wee bit too small for me and my wife but having a 3-bed room that wasn´t a problem. As far as I know, in Scotland there is rarely a real king-size bed.
The owners have called and asked for the “state of things” and we felt that we´ve got an all-around nice service.
Booking and invoicing was easy and hassle free. Communication was consistent from the beginning right up until we got the deposit refunded. A good and reliable contact.
I cannot point out a single thing that has annoyed me during our stay, or that would have made me regret our decision to stay at the boathouse We would be happy to come back.
