Reviewed 1 week ago for a stay in July 2018

A magnificent week in the wonderfully situated Cuckoo Cottage ,a perfect place to get away from it all, with breathtaking views of Luskentyre Sands. It is well placed to access West Harris, surely the most beautiful part of Britain, with unbelievable beaches, cerulean coloured waters set against a back drop of majestic mountains!

“Simply stunning”
Reviewed April 22, 2018 for a stay in April 2018

I could write forever about how wonderful this place is, both the cottage and the location. The cottage is one of the best I've stayed in - think boutique hotel style and you wouldn't be too far off and the photos don't do it justice. The view from the doorstep is worth the money in itself and Luskentyre beach is enchanting. It's only a two minute walk to the dunes and onto the beach and then about an hour stroll to go round to the far end and back up the road - I did it at least once every day.

The cottage is lovely and warm to return to after a day out in the brisk winds and it's all very comfortable. The only gripe I had was that the TV didn't work but with the view, who needs it anyway? Just to note that there's no Wifi and mobile reception is very poor or non-existent (I'm on O2). However, I actually really enjoyed the digital detox.

Overall, it was simply stunning and I loved it so much that I've just put a request in for another stay next year!

Thanks for the review Pete. It was great!
Thanks also for the heads up about the TV. I had the man down from Stornoway to get the dish realigned, but the storms lately must have knocked it out again

The location was fantastic and the cottage was beautifully decorated with a cosy and welcoming feeling ... fantastic all round and had a great holiday.

We were so grateful for the food that was left as we had been given some bum information regarding shops and Sunday opening times by the tourist information centre. We were overjoyed when we saw that pack of bacon ,eggs and the loaf of bread as we were thinking we were going to have to learn how to fish for ourselves.

Would stay here again any day.

“Another World”

Another wonderful stay near the 'out of this world' beach of Luskentyre. Probably not everyone's cup of tea as you have to be prepared for Scottish weather (all 4 seasons in a day sometimes) but if you come kitted out for rain or sun and love to walk miles on a near deserted sandy beach in the middle of nowhere, this is the place to be. This year we had nearly a week of really hot, sunny weather.

Cuckoo cottage has the most amazing outlook over Luskentyre. It is small and incredibly compact, has everything you need. It is very comfortable for a family who knows each other well with the added bonus of no internet and unreliable mobile phone reception to cut yourself off from the world.

This is the 3rd time we have stayed here and love it more each time we go back.

“A very special place on a very special island”

Just had a wonderful week staying in Cuckoo Cottage overlooking Luskentyre Beach - a more lovely setting is hard to imagine. We walked on the beach before breakfast and most nights at sunset, and never got over our sense of wonder. Cuckoo Cottage is very comfortable and well equipped. We particularly appreciated the milk, butter, bread and bacon which had been left in the fridge for us on our arrival, plus the packs of nice bath/shower products. This was all part of the extra thought that has gone into providing for the comfort and enjoyment of the people renting the cottage. There was always plenty of hot water and both a shower and bath in separate rooms. Lots of interesting guide books on Harris and Lewis to browse through as well as the detailed information pack. We found Cuckoo Cottage a great base for exploring Harris and further afield. We had a day exploring the west coast of Lewis and were lucky enough to have a trip to St Kilda with Sea Harris. We recommend Croft 36 in Northton for homemade takeaway meals and snacks when feeling lazy after a long day out - but pick the food up early in the day as it quickly sells out. Croft's owner does deliver sometimes. Just a little way beyond Croft 36, The Temple Cafe serves excellent food and is a great place to eat, as is Skoon Art Cafe on the east coast of Harris. The Anchor in Leverburgh was also good and we had dinner at Scarista House for a special birthday celebration which was a wonderful experience. A week was not long enough and we can't wait to return!
