“Best holiday home”
Reviewed August 26, 2017 for a stay in August 2017

We are not long back from a week in this fantastic holiday home.
This place was so well equipped and comfortable that I cannot recommend it enough. We stayed with our friends for a week (11th -18th August).
The house has the best views and is only a 15 min walk to the beautiful Husinish beach. I will say the single track road to the house is very long but so worth it when you get there.
The house was cosy and homely and we all had a fantastic time.

“A cosy haven”
Reviewed August 22, 2017 for a stay in August 2017

The location of Glorig croft house is stunning, set above a beautiful cove and a 10 minute walk to the sandy, secluded Husinish beach.

The house was both spacious and cosy, with plenty of room for my husband and our two children along with our friends and their little boy, so everyone had their own space and we weren't on top of one another. The conservatory was very comfortable and served as a second living room with amazing panoramic views.

The house was equipped with everything we could possibly need for the week, plus lots of lovely extras such as games, books, wetsuits, beach towels and binoculars. The beds were extremely comfortable with excellent quality bedding and towels provided.

Harris itself is so beautiful, and we were lucky enough to get enough sunshine to enjoy the beaches, hill walks etc, but there were a couple of rainy/chilly days which we didn't begrudge, as the house was such a comfortable place to be.

The only negative (and I'm not sure it really is one, as it meant that we largely had the beach to ourselves!) is that access to the house is along a very tricky to negotiate one track road which was pretty hairy driving in the wind and rain- although that definitely won't stop us coming back to this idyllic spot.

the comfortable homely house in a beautiful isolated spot. Wildlife on our doorstep and a glorious white beach to walk on everyday with our dog and grandchildren.

The holiday home was brilliant and was extremely well equipped. The beach near by was beautiful. The boys loved playing in the stream. Everything was perfect and even the weather was good.

This is a fantastic cottage with all the mod cons you could ever need. The river in the garden is a great distraction for the kids and it's only a short walk to a lovely sandy beach at Hushinish. The cottage has a lovely warm conservatory and a great selection of games and DVD's for when the weather is a bit too wild to venture out. Too many great beaches to mention along the west coast of Harris but we loved the beaches at Scarista and Luskentyre - nice touch by the owner having body boards there you can use during your stay. Our favourite beach by far though was a beach north of Hushinish beach, so very near the cottage. For those that are keen on this moderately challenging leg stretcher, the route is pathed at first but does require good boots. The end destination is Traigh Mheilen beach – an absolute stunner – which faces Scarp. Allow around an hour at a leisurely pace both ways and, weather permitting, Traigh Mheilen is a top spot for a private picnic. We had this beach totally to ourselves on a glorious sunny day: pure white sand, turquoise water and splendid isolation. Probably the best beach in the world! We loved Harris so much - our new favourite Scottish island! Only downsides of the cottage are the 40 minute drive to get a pint of milk and the lack of wifi/mobile phone reception [the wifi is installed but we couldn't connect for some reason]- it does have a landline though so you can contact the outside world if required. As long as you are happy to leave the world behind and simply enjoy this glorious wilderness then nowhere could be better. Loved it!

“Happiest of Times.”
Reviewed June 7, 2015 for a stay in September 2013

I had the pleasure of staying here with my husband, daughter, son in law, grandson, son, and his girlfriend!....oh and Ella our dog!
This cottage has every thing you could need...it is warm, comfortable, and is very well equipped!
It has a Burn " stream" that runs along the side of the house, a matter of feet from the end of the garden, you're met with the most magical, stunning views! This cotrage is quite simply idyllic!
We had the happiest of times here!

“Perfect retreat with incredible views.”
Reviewed January 4, 2015 for a stay in September 2014

We booked to stay for a week in early September and were extremely fortunate to have warm weather. We wanted a retreat for an anniversary holiday, but this home (Glorig House feels far more a home than simply a house) would be ideal for families including children of all ages, though care would be recommended for younger children inclined to explore.
The rooms are a good size, well equipped with everything we needed. The conservatory has great views, but so does the window at the kitchen sink! It was fantastic to sit up in bed and look out on the sea and not have to worry about what time to get up.
Beautiful Huishnish beach is a short walk away. We strolled down with a picnic and were amazed to discover hens pecking around near the rocks and sheep being gathered into the pens alongside the road, a memorable afternoon. We also walked over the machair beyond the beach, watching the rabbits scurrying around and sea birds galore. Along the road the eagle observatory is a pleasant walk from the layby, our patience was rewarded, but we wouldn't have spotted the eagle without binoculars, so remember to keep them to hand.
We enjoyed many beautiful views, glorious sunsets, skies, islands, majestic mountains. We drove to Stornoway, Uig Sands another day and took the Golden Road on a third trip - but mostly we were happy to spend time in and around our home for the week, making our meals from local produce and enjoying evenings in front of the peat fire.
It was a great way to relax and get away from everything - there is a landline phone if needed and wifi, so best of both worlds.
Expect the tap water to look discoloured (it's the peat!), don't try to rush along the road as cattle and sheep roam freely, simply enjoy a different pace of life for a while.
