Lovely property with absolutely everything you could need for a wonderful stay. Right next to the beach, great views, every possible facility. Fab location on Harris, great for walking. Very well furnished, peaceful, large garden. The owners are easily contactable and ready to help or advise on anything, really friendly. Great welcome from the lovely local 'caretaker' and a bottle of Prosecco chilling in the fridge too! When the weather's not so good the cottage is so snug and cosy it really doesn't matter. Will certainly be booking again.
We have just been fortunate enough to spend a whole month at Seol Mara, for us the perfect getaway, well provided with all the comforts you would expect in a recently modernised cottage. When we were not out and about exploring the hills and fabulous beaches on the doorstep, it was a great place to relax in and watch the wildlife on the seashore (Peter even provides binoculars) and the fabulous sunsets. We also appreciated the collection of books, guides and maps related to the islands. Harris is a truly exceptional place and we very much hope we shall be able to return to Seol Mara.
We stayed at Seol Mara during the Easter break with our two young kids. Gillian was very responsive and helpful prior to arrival, providing some ideas for things to do with our kids on Harris, etc.
On arrival, it was clear that they had gone the extra mile to make guests feel welcome, with some lovely touches like a bottle of prosecco awaiting us in the fridge :) The cottage is kitted out with everything you'd need and things you will have forgotten to bring too...including a good selection of books, games and DVDs. The cottage had extra touches that you might not expect as a given in a holiday rental e.g. good quality toiletries, well stocked kitchen cupboards, Harris tweed accessories, wood for the fire, etc. All these small things make a difference to the feel of your stay.
The location is simply amazing. The back garden leads down to the bay adjoining the sands of Luskentyre which was fun to go for a wander with the kids. It is very well placed to explore Harris and also for day trips up into Lewis.
I'd recommend this cottage to anyone!! :)
Excellent location, you can walk out straight onto the beach. Bungalow was well furnished and equipped, with lovely extras such as USB plug chargers, binoculars, compass, lots of local books. There were many thoughtful additions, plenty of coffee, cling film, and all the small sundry things that one needs from day to day.
Very nice bedding and towels and comfy beds.
Seol Mara is the most comfortable, well-equipped and beautifully-located cottage we have ever rented for a holiday. We spent a week here in March and wish we had arranged to stay for a fortnight. The location is incomparable. You can walk out of the back door, across the back lawn and straight down onto Seilebost beach. The walk out towards the ocean with the ever expanding view across to Luskentyre and the Harris mountains is stunning.
The cottage itself is furnished to a very high standard. The lounge has two very comfortable sofas and an armchair, as well as a large tv with a sky service. The double bed and the two single beds all have good mattresses and we slept very well. The bathroom has an over-bath shower with excellent pressure. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could need. And the views across the bay from the large kitchen windows are a treat. We cooked watching the oystercatchers and a curlew feeding at low tide. There is very efficient central heating and a log burner.
Seol Mara is a really peaceful place to spend time and unwind. Tarbert is only 15 minutes away, with two hotels and a couple of shops for provisions. There is also a really well-stocked community shop about 15 minutes drive along a beautiful coast road to the south in Leverburgh where we did our food shopping. The Skoon gallery and cafe in Geocrab on the east side of the island is really delightful and worth a visit.
We wouldn't hesitate to encourage other people to spend a holiday in the cottage. And the owners, and Effie across the road, couldn't be more obliging. A wonderful find. We definitely aim to make a return visit.
We stayed for a week at this very comfortable home from home cottage. We thoroughly enjoyed spending time in this well equipped beautiful place with very relaxing views . Even cooking was not a chore lol.
The.cosy log burner kept us cosy and the coffee maker supplied delicious coffee. Only down side was there was not very many restaurants or coffee shops open but we did manage to have a couple of meals out in Tarbert .
The owner was very attentive and Effie across the road popped into make sure we settled in.
We would highly recommend this cottage this place is good to top up your resilience as we all have such a busy life . We would love to go back already.
Beautifully decorated and well equipped clean cottage in a beautiful location. Sublimely peaceful with long clean isolated sandy beaches nearby. An eclectic and magical range of landscapes on the island which we enjoyed exploring in our too short a time there....lovely housekeeper opposite and everyone made us very welcome. A lot of places closed till Easter but this was fine with us. Nearby Tarbert has all the supplies you need...the Gin distillery and Harris tweed shop are open all year round as is the towns hotel and bar/restaurant.
Take time to look at the stars on a clear night...this place is truly wonderful and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Owners are both very helpful too :)
