Stumbled onto the Glen Ord Distillery traveling to our next stop. The tour is not that long but you cover a lot of fun facts, see the actual distillery, whiskey at various stages of the process in huge barrels and learn how to sip and identify the different flavors of a whiskey.

Called in and we were told there was a 25min wait for a tour. We didn't mind as we had a wander round the shop and the exhibit. The shop is fairly overpriced. The tour was intersting and our guide barbara was very enthusiastic! The only thing we found a bit odd is since the relaunch of the glen ord brand under the guise of singletons this particular whisky is only distributed in Asia so not even available on the British market. My fiance had a few tastes of different whiskys which he really enjoyed!

This distillery is not difficult to find, even though it looks like a huge factory (actually, Diageo's doubling the capacity from 5m to 10m litres per annum). Since we booked a tour beforehand, had no problems going inside and saw their small exhibition before setting off. The tour itself is just about above average but not that excellent - a lot of time was spent around the washbacks. Shame there was no warehouse and of course, no photography. Had a taste of Singleton of Glen Ord 12yo plus two tastings from their other distilleries, since we booked that one and found it generally pleasant to drink. Pity there is no tasting of the old Glen Ord before the Singleton brand was introduced, but it has probably been drained anyway. But anyhow, buying a bottle of their Singleton is a good idea, because you won't get it easily, if at all, in the UK (since it is exported to SE and E Asia). Overall, found the distillery to be a good place to visit and the service generally friendly. 8 / 10

Arrived to discover there was a 90minute wait for a full tour. Took the exhibition option instead. This was short and pretty dull really. Had the dram and left. The Singleton is a great drink but the service at the bar was poor and the bottles in the shop were overpriced. Book ahead for a better experience and buy your whisky in the supermarket?

strangely, you can't find this single malt anywhere but here (or in Asia), so take the time there. If you're a classic malt friend it's free (free registration). Really nice visit and tasting of 2 or 3 drams, excellent for learning and comparing flavours
