I have just spent 5 days in Ullapool as a solo traveller and although I was camping I spent each evening in the Argyll Hotel. It was a very friendly place and the quality of food was excellent. I would be happy to stay on my next visit.

We decided to visit the Argyll Hotel for a meal with friends whilst we were in Ullpaool on holiday. There was a good selection of starters and main courses and the food arrived quite quickly.
The Cullen Skink was delicious as was the chicken and Chorizo pie.
One member of our party did order the cheeseburger which it said came with homemade pickles. In actual fact, the pickles were made with chilli which was not mentioned on the menu and she was unable to eat the bun part of the meal as that is where the chilli was concentrated. She did point it out to the waitress who said that there was nothing they could do as she had eaten most of the meal, unfortunately, due to the way she likes to eat her meal she didn't realise there was a problem until quite late in the meal.

We stayed here enroute to Lewis primarily because it was dog friendly. The hotel itself is quite small and a bit old fashioned but the bedroom was spacious enough and it was clean and cosy. The shower room was tiny and we were on the second floor, the stairs to which are quite steep with doors that are not entirely easy to manoeuvre through with a dog/luggage and would not be suitable for guests with mobility problems.
There's not much soundproofing in the hotel, but to be fair the village is quiet and noise seemed to settle at a reasonable time (you can hear all smokers standing outside or people sitting at picnic tables as the rooms are directly above).
The food in the restaurant was very tasty although the portions were on the smaller side and prices were on the higher side. The bar prices seemed quite high also but the bar was generally quite busy.
The view from the hotel is good and there's plenty of area to walk dogs nearby.

not the worst place I've ever stopped but credit to it for getting so close!
the stairway stank. very big bed sat between walls painted dark purple and green.
I wonder if it doubles as a brothel in the close season?
the landlords attitude to european guests who spoke little English was appalling.
ullapool is beautiful spoiled only by the Argyll hotel and it's landlord
at £145 inc breakfast a rip off

Stairwell up to the bedroom stunk of stale cigarettes - "according to the owner" it was all freshly painted last year & perhaps someone had been smoking outside and the smoke got into the area when the door was open?! We're from parents who smoked and we know a stale smell, from a freshly made one! From what we could tell it may have been painted yes but on wall paper that was pre "No smoking policy", so it could have been on top of stinky "old cigarette infused" walls! Also according to the owner, some of the fire hoses were decommissioned! We had a fire hose outside the bedroom which we stayed in, which we couldn't make out the date it was last checked, if this was indeed one of the decommissioned pieces of equipment, why was it still on the wall? The shower was an ancient Mira 8.4 Supreme which had seen better days as had the net curtain & the tiles in the bathroom didn't match either! Some of the carpet leading to the dining area was thread bare, the outside patio area/parking area - emmm well, there were more weeds than flowers or bushes & this is what you are faced with before you even entered the property! The window in the bedroom didn't open and was covered in dust! The list is endless but the main thing was,"in our opinion" - IT WAS NOT VALUE FOR MONEY & was a complete rip off! Breakfast was not included in the price of the stay, £135 bed & breakfast for a tired, grimy place? Seriously? If we hadn't already paid for it through Booking.com we wouldn't have stayed in it, we would have slept in our car, as unfortunately everywhere else was booked up. If this is all we have to offer our visitors in Scotland, we're ashamed to say we're Scottish! Avoid at all costs if possible!

Room Tip: Find another hotel!
