“Really homely, welcoming and dog friendly too”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 28, 2013 via mobile

My partner and I loved our stay. It was so relaxed and I feel that it was a home from home. Staff were friendly and our room warm when we arrived. Bed linen was clean and soft, beds comfortable. Our room was large with a sofa and desk. Radio and TV both worked fine. Bathroom small but functional.

The bar and restaurant are so cosy and we spent a lot of time there. The open fire helped! Our meal on Saturday night was lovely, vegetables cooked to perfection and very reasonably priced.

Dogs are welcome at the hotel and there were no issues. We could relax and so could the dog.

I read with interest a review which criticises the power lines outside the window. Seriously? Perhaps consider going outside to take photos of the view! I despair at reviewers who seem to suffer from "Hilton-itus" when reviewing small, rural hotels. The odd area of cracked paint or dodgy tap is far outweighed by the character of the place and the overall experience. If searching for Hilton uniformity, stay in the city and stay in a Hilton!

We will stay at the Argyll again. Looking forward to it!

The hotel is basic in terms of accommodation but the welcome and service was second to none. The view of the harbour and the tranquility of the place at this time of year made it feel peaceful and relaxing. I would recommend eating in the restaurant where the food was well above average and reasonably priced. We had our dog with us and he was accommodated without any hassle and within a day ir two we felt more like locals than visitors.

I'm not sure how this hotel was awarded three stars! Avoid it at all costs. The rooms have walls that are so thin you can hear everything from other rooms. The snoring next door kept me awake. The doors needed to be slammed to close them (as they were badly fitted)so we had to put up with the loud noise of doors slamming all the time -particularly frequent as the bathrooms are across the hall. Our (private) bathroom had been freshly painted and smelled so toxic that it was unsuitable for use at all. We used the other common bathroom, which had mould growing all over the ceiling -hence the toxic paint in the other one I suppose. I walked up the stairs after breakfast and water poured onto my head from a ceiling leak! The light fitting was half full of water and the old ceiling stains suggested the leak was months old. The hotel has several flat roofs -that as an Architect I can see are not constructed properly -hence the mould, dampness and leaks. On a more positive note, the food was like English pub grub and was okay (huge helpings - average quality). The breakfast was good with lots of choice. Staff were friendly and helpful. The location is good. The construction of the rooms was dreadfull, but they were kept clean and tidy.
In summary though -I didn't think hotels this bad still existed -who would ever return? Roughly the standard of a bad youth hostel.

My wife and I loved staying at The Argyll. From the outside, the building is attractive and has a substantial look to it. The rooms, as well as the entire property, fees like they are kept up with pride by owners that care about their clients. A private parking lot behind the hotel is very convenient.

The pub and restaurant on the ground level seem to be popular with the locals, as they were both nearly full at dinner time. The breakfast offerings are quite amazing., without a doubt, the best of our whole Scottish vacation. A full menu of items, individually prepared to your taste. Excellent!

We would definitely stay here again.

Room very comfortable on 2nd floor with a lovely view over the harbour. Bathroom let it down a bit - in much need of a refurb, shower head was broken & hard to keep in place, toilet seat wobbly & unstable. However, the restaurant was excellent with fabulous food & service both at dinner & breakfast. Friendly staff. Well worth a stay overall

Girlie weekend away. Found the staff and locals very helpful & friendly. Nigel was a great host. Many laughs and a few hangovers - beware of the cider! :)
Rooms were clean and comfortable.

On arrival the gentleman checking us in was warm and friendly and helpful. That's where it ended for us. I had paid extra money for a harbour view room with an ensuite. The place is described as renovated. Well maybe 15 years ago. The view was marred by a large black cable in front of the windows so photo was impossible of the lovely harbour view. The bed was only a double, so my 6ft tall partners feet hung out of the bed all night. The bed was hard and the pillows matched it. Wallpaper peeling off in the bathroom. I am currently staying 62 nights on holiday throughout the uk, and this was the worse value for money for me spent thus far. I don't mind paying a bit extra for good value and I didn't find it here. Most of the time I was trying to be quiet as the walls are paper thin. The back door from the carpark becomes awash with rain and there is an unavoidable puddle to navigate which has obviously been a problem for a long time. It is a danger and a nuisance. Linen was clean and evening meal was good, breakfast was great. It is was it is.

Room Tip: Some rooms have a shared bathroom so make sure you know what you're getting. Stairs are narrow a...
