It's a very dated massive old hotel.
The rooms are quite big but quite shabby.
The hanging basket outside our window rattled in the wind all bloody night.
Our room had a sea view but over the public toilets.

BUT
The room was pretty clean
Everything worked, including the Wi-Fi
The bed was adequate
And the serve yourself breakfast although fairly basic full english stuff was as plentiful as you wanted.

So, for a one night stop off on the North Coast 500 on your bike or as in our case classic car it was fine.

But if it was a romantic weekend away,

We wondered why we were asked to pay on arrival. We eventually got to our room after a trudge all around this hotel. The room was very clean, the decor and furniture was very basic for £100 per night. We complained there was no hot water, after the handy man came to our room we found out the cold tap with a "C" on top was actually the hot and the hot was the cold. It wasn't until we went to bed we realised the mattress was completely knackered, we could feel the springs and it rolled to the middle. When we complained in the morning we were told they wouldn't know this as they didn't sleep in the beds. Breakfast was edible, the black pudding was like a dried biscuit, the fried eggs were like lumps of rubber, the bacon however was fine and there was good helpings of haggis. On our way to our room we were met with older people who were struggling to get to their rooms due to the stairs, no lift, and the long walk around the corridors to their rooms. It's a shame, this could be a much nicer hotel if a bit more care was taken and the foreign receptionist was a little more customer friendly. On our floor one of the rooms has the door sealed around with gaffer tape, looked like someone had died in the room and they were trying to keep the smell of rotting bodies out of the corridor. Other room doors had padlocks keeping them shut!!
Would I return?? Never!!!

The Caley Bar in the Caledonian hotel can be best described as a big, plain bar. There is nothing fancy in either decor or style, and even our lager was a tad flat.
What more can I say? It’s just a typical, ordinary Scottish bar.
And nothing wrong with that, if that’s what you want, but there really are better options, such as the Arch Inn.

This hotel had all that was required for an overnight stay. The only major negative was that the WiFi was terrible in the room and I had to spend most of my time in the downstairs lounge area to get better reception. It’s an old hotel, so expect the floorboards to creak, hear the people in the room next door. There obviously has been an attempt to modernize the decore but the bathrooms need a little more attention- looking old, enamel worn out in the bathtub. Breakfast was satisfactory, staff were friendly.

We arrived and paid 130 pounds for the room. There was no hot water, the shower flooded, the internet was so bad (I am writing this review from the hotel room using my cell phone because the wifi is completely down). We spoke to the concierge and he told us the rooms were all like this. Upon his recommendation, I ran the water for over an hour hoping to get hot water...nothing. Instead, the bathroom almost flooded because their drain was clogged. This is a nightmarish experience. Oh, and the room smells like smoke.
