The Minch is a long stretch of sea water between the west coast of Scotland and the Hebrides. If you get the ferry from Ullapool to Stornoway, providing it is a clear and calm day, you should get one of the best ferry trips of you life - we did. We were with 8 friends from Norway doing a trip around the Highlands and Lewis and Harris in our private bus - great fun! The Calmac ferry is large and very comfortable and efficient. As you leave Ullapool the views of the west coast just get better and better - there were some dark clouds on the horizon and blue sky above us - the views were superb! Further out it was announced that we would pass the Queen Mary 2 - it came relatively close and both ships sounded their horns. A large cargo ship also passed us a bit further away. But a surprise came when someone shouted "dolphins" - a few pods came close to the ferry, jumping out of the water. As we approached Stornoway the panoramic views of Lewis and Harris were wonderful. I got some terrific photos of the whole trip.
