“Beautiful Location”
Reviewed September 9, 2011

We stayed over in a tent for one night on a road trip around Scotland. As mentioned in other reviews the site is in a great location with water on both side of the site. The ground is very rocky and we also had problems getting pegs into the grounds (had to leave almost half of the peg showing).

I am not sure about the previous reviews regarding the facilities as we found the them to be very clean and well looked after. The showers were free and the water was very hot and did not run out.

Toilets and sinks were clean and no sign of the rusty old facilities as previously mentioned.

The pot washing area was indoors and again there was sufficient hot water to do the job.

Admittedly the site was very very quiet and we had none of the afore mentioned noise / dog issues

The only real negative was i found the site a little expensive as camp sites go but given the ample free hot water and location i would definitely stay again

We came with our tent and 3 friends for a weekend up in Ullapool that involved hillwalking and eating out.

The campsite is perfect location-wise, right next to the water but also in town, 2 minutes to the pubs, restaurants & shops.

Pitching the tent was an interesting process involving a little cursing and a fair few bent tent pegs. The ground is rocky & they don't sink in too far! However, we got it pitched and it didn't blow away, even on a windy night!

After a full day of hillwalking, we went back for a shower - 20p for about 5 minutes I remember. 3 boys, 2 girls took 20p each. The boys all reported good showers, I got a steady dribble from the shower which may as well have been a leaking tap, but just enough to wash my hair. My friend didn't even get enough water to wash her face. Neither shower was marked out of order but both certainly should have been! We did hear what sounded like functioning showers around us. The sinks and toilets were very clear though, and well stocked with soap & loo roll so I can't complain in that department.

Would stay here again, but would pick my shower carefully!

I love Ullapool and have been going there for several years now. The site is ideally located with beautiful views and easy access to the town.

I went there with my husband and our 6 six year old son. We stayed for 9 nights and found it a bit expensive for what you were actually getting!!!

People just pitched wherever they wanted which meant you had people near enough touching your tent, the toilet blocks were average, soap dispensers didnt work, sinks were old and rusty looking, hot taps either didnt work or they soaked you when they came on, top toilet block door didnt have a spring on it so when you were in the shower you had a gale blowing in as other people didnt shut the door behind them. You have to pay 20p for approx 5 mins of hot water in the shower, half the time you couldnt get the hot water or you would have to be stuck to the wall to get the water to touch you as it just trickled out. This is not ideal when you are trying to shower a child as well.

The site is not manned, so no one there to meet you when you get there and no one to control any problems on the site. Such as the bikers that came onto the site who were there for a few nights, they would come back to the site at all hours of the morning drunk and would sit outside their tents talking singing and shouting as loud as they could. There was nothing you could do as no one was on site to deal with it.

There was dogs running about the site and doing there business where they pleased even though there is a good field next to the site for walking.

Certain parts of the site flooded with the rain which makes your tent flood inside.

Ullapool is such a beautiful place, if the people who owed the site done it up it would be perfect.

I stayed for 2 nights at this camp site. you could not fault the location which is just beatuiful by the egde of the water, also very close to the town centre.
There was no reception to greet us, we just has to pitch and money was collected the following morning. Sadly there is no noise restrictions and people are happy to come at any time. This made the large site very noisy. There are 2 toilet and shower blocks which were looking a bit dated. The sinks were very rusty and soap dispensers did not work. You had to pay 20p for the shower.

Broomfiled camp site is set in a spectacular and dramatic location. All amienities at hand and Ullapool town at the camp gates. The camp commanders Ruth and Sander are worth a mention, lovely people and v funny! The drive up to Ullapool is worth doing just for the scenery alone. Loved it all and wll def be back but this time for longer. Next time I'll be walking up some of those hills! PS animal friendly
