We had our wedding reception at the Mallard Hotel on the 25th of October this year. It truly was perfect.
The Staff were very helpful in the run up to the big day and helped a lot with all our plans. They were very flexable with our requests and the menu and drink ideas we had. They were also very helpful when it came to decorations and setting things up the way we wanted. The flowers provided were beautiful.
The food was fantastic, our guests loved the all choices and are still mentioning how good the foor was now. We had a Ceilidh in the evening and it was great fun. We had a supper of Stovies and Macaroni Cheese and both were delicious.
Some of our Family also stayed over night and mentioned that the accommodation was great.
We are so happy we chose to have our reception here and delighted with the way our day went. We would highly recommend the Mallard to anyone geting married or for any other event. They day couldn't have gone any smoother, it was amazing!

Thank you for your recent review of the hotel.

We are delighted that we were able to help make your special day special!

We feel that each couple is individual and so we take the time to get to know them and how they would like their day to be organised. Gone are the days when weddings were run to a rigid pattern so we try our best to work with the bride and groom to make a day as individual as they are.

All the staff at the Mallard get great satisfaction from being part of a happy day. Thank you for choosing us.

We wish you a long and happy married life together and hope to see you for a complimentary meal on your first anniversary!

Provided everything needed at a budget price relevant to standards required . Don't expect the Ritz experience, but if you want cleanliness , very comfy bed and value for money then cant go wrong..... I would always prefer a family run environment to a corporate box and this provided what was required.

It is a bit tired .... but as far as providing a clean safe comfy stay it is perfectly fit for purpose

Thank you for your recent review of the Mallard.

We are glad that you enjoyed your stay with us and that the family-run atmosphere came through.

We do hope in the months to come to carry out some refurbishment, refreshing the decor in certain areas, whilst retaining the character of the building.

We look forward to welcoming you back on your next trip. Thanks again for your positive feedback.

Just back form a great golfing break with friends and have no hesitation in recommending the Mallard for a stay. If you are looking for a palace then the Mallard is not for you however if you are looking for great food, traditional old fashioned hospitality and value for money then this is the place for you. The rooms are clean and functional, not the Ritz however I wasn't paying for the Ritz. Also I enjoyed the food immensely and my friends are real foodies and they were raving about the dinners, I had the fillet steak and it was excellent and for breakfast I had a kipper which I felt a tad guilty bearing in mind the great rate we all got - needless to say I still had the kipper and it was delicious. The golf at Gullane was superb even in the howling gales and rain but the hospitality at the Mallard rounded off an excellent weekend. We had stayed at another hotel in Gullane last time we visited and had a good stay but I must say its the Mallard that we will return to which is a real reflection on the efforts of the owner that after 50 years they still look after their guests - roll on the next 50!!

Thank you for your recent review of the Mallard Hotel.

We are very pleased that you enjoyed your golfing break in Gullane, and in particular the accommodation and food at the Mallard.

Of course, the majority of our guests are golfers, surrounded as we are by several first class golf courses. As you know the situation of the hotel is a pitch and a putt from the three Gullane Courses.

We look forward to welcoming you back when Gullane's greens next beckon!

My boyfriend and I stayed in Mallard Hotel for a couple of nights in August during my first visit to Scotland.
I must say it was the best choice to stay at Mallard and experience scottish hospitality, delicious meals and charming atmosphere of the hotel.
Truly welcoming and warm people, willing to help you out whatever you may need.
The rooms are clean and comfortable and quiet-a pleasure to return to. The beds are very comfortable and good sleep is guaranteed.
Well situated hotel can be a perfect place for golf-lovers. Loads of wonderful golf courses nearby. You can also go for a pleasant wander to the beach and enjoy the view. For sure it`s a great value, location and accommodations.
Mallard hotel is highly recommended to anyone. We really enjoyed our stay here and we will definitely return.

On Friday 23rd August, my husband and I joined with other volunteer walk leaders from East Lothian in a lunch at The Mallard Hotel. I had never eaten at this establishment before and didn't really know what the food would be like. I had chosen pate to start, a ham salad for my main course and a fresh fruit Pavlova for pudding. The pate was served like a scoop of ice cream with Melba toast. I am not accustomed to getting an ice cream scoop of pate as it is usually served as a slice from a terrine shape. The ham salad was not endowed with much ham - one paltry slice and a mound of grated cheese on the side. The coleslaw was rough cut, whereas I much prefer finely shredded coleslaw and there wasn't really that much salad either. The Pavlova was a real disappointment - a meringue nest with piped cream cream and a mixture of fresh fruits - not what a Pavlova should be. Top marks though for a caffetiere of hot decaf coffee at the end of the lunch. Just pleased I didn't have to pay for this.

Thanks for your recent review.

Although the presentation of our smooth chicken liver pate surprised you, we do hope the taste was to your liking.

We pride ourselves on our home cooked ham and are sorry that you felt the portion was too small. However, we would point out that this meal was part of a set menu, which we do feel represented very good value for money. We are also sorry to hear that the homemade coleslaw -- another staple of the Mallard kitchen -- was not presented in your preferred style.

Our fresh fruit pavlova is indeed served in individual meringue nests; we'll have a think about a name that might better suit this recipe.

We are however glad that you enjoyed your cafetiere of ground decaf coffee. We hope that for that alone you might consider returning to the Mallard sometime.
