“golfing weekend (50th with the lads)”
Reviewed May 15, 2012

Fantastic weekend, golf was organised by David at great value for the quality of courses we played.
The hotel was in a great position for the courses we played.
The Hotel was extremely friendly and welcoming with nothing to much for them. The breakfast was excellent and very substantial with an excellent choice to suit everyone, we dinned at the hotel for two of the evenings we were there and found the food to be of a very good standard and at reasonable prices.
All in all we all had great time in a great Hotel with great friendly people and great food, what more can I say.

We had lunch at the Kings Arms last Saturday for a family birthday. There were about 16 adults and 5 children. The Hotel had kindly put up balloons and banners without being asked to, which was a lovely touch. We had a 3 course menu with approximately 4 courses on each course. The food was piping hot and brought from the kitchen timeously. What I particularly liked was the 'home cooked' taste of the food, with no artificial colours or flavours. Staff were extremely attentive and nothing was too much for them.

Will definitely be back, when in Castle Douglas!

Myself and four friends visited Scotland last weekend to Mountain Bike - Kirroughtree is an outstanding ride. We chose the Kings Arms as it is within 15 minutes of Dalbeattie and 25 minutes of Kirroughtree and Mabie. Castle Douglas is a lovely small town. It is home to Sulwath micro brewery, two indian and one chinese restaurants. The Kings Arms was extremely friendly. The patron was very knowledgable about the local area and mountain biking. There is a secure lock up for bikes. The food was very good with probably the best fillet steak ever. I would definitely use this hotel again.

Just returned from a great weekend; mountain biking in Scotland; a group of five lads... Rode Kirroughtree on Saturday afternoon after travelling up from Chester... After the fantastic ride we stayed an the Kings Arms Hotel.. It was great, three of us shared a room with three single beds and en-suite, simple clean room with everything we needed. We ate in the hotel on Saturday night (massive appetite after the ride) and the meal was just what we needed... The fillet steak and chips is definately recommended... The bar was busy on the Saturday evening with a good atmosphere. We used the bike shed to lock up the bikes for the night and David the owner couldn't do more to make us welcome and advise us on the next days riding (Mabie)... We all agree that this is a fantastic place to stay and will definately be returning next time we get together for a weekend of biking... Would really recommend this hotel.

Was down in this lovely part of Scotland on business and booked this hotel on the strength of Trip Advisor reviews - and i'm glad i did so.

Staff were spot on, from check in to check out. Rooms were spacious and spotlessly clean with good tourist info if needed and freeview TV.

My colleague and i ate in the restaurant at night and the food was excellent - i recommend the chef's pate and the delicous rob roy dessert - all i can say is try it for yourself!

with free onsite parking and a lively public bar, you should definately make this your place of stay if you visit Castle Douglas.

Castle Douglas has a certain old fashioned charm, just like the Kings Arms Hotel.

The well-managed King's Arms has had two stars from the RAC but we will give it 4 because of its friendliness and because it seems like the sort of place that would have been loved by John Buchan, author of Huntingtower and Thirty Nine Steps.

The Kings Arms is probably the best in town.

When Prince Charles came to Castle Douglas, it was to the King's Arms that he came.

The rooms in the King's Arms are what you would expect of a comfortable RAC two star hotel.

The restaurant is good but not AA rosette standard.

Service is efficient and friendly.

The King's Arms is popular with locals, partly because, unlike some of its rivals, it has been run by the same family for many years.

The Kings Arms is popular with golfers and cyclists.

Castle Douglas, and the King's Arms, have the potential to be as brilliant as anything in Brittany or Normandy in France.

The 'food town' of Castle Douglas should have its own mayor, and its hotels and restaurants should try to earn Michelin stars.

Castle Douglas is in the most beautiful part of the UK and makes a good centre for visits to places such as Kirkcudbright and Rockcliffe.

Just returned from a 3 night golf break, staying at the Kings Arms. If you are looking for a good hotel that provides decent evening meals, a good breakfast selection and has an owner who cares- try this hotel. Been going to Castle Douglas for the golf for around 10 years and make a point of staying here. David is very helpful and can offer good advice about which courses to play. Staff in the restaurant and behind the bar are excellent and friendly. David can also offer advice about other activities in the area from mountain biking to general sightseeing.
As the title suggests - I will be back next year.
