“Fantastic..!”
Reviewed August 14, 2011

We have just returned from a week's holiday staying at Airdsmill which is the 4 bed luxury house adjacent to Airds Farm B&B and also owned by Alan and Tricia. We ranged in age from 12 to 85(!) and everyone enjoyed themselves. The house has a high degree of comfort and everything has been taken care of by the lovely, friendly owners Alan and Tricia who were on hand to make sure everything was fine and offer advice although without being intrusive.

There was a beautifully equipped kitchen and utility room with everything you could possibly need. A comfortable living area with tv, books and chess set etc. All the bedrooms were very comfortable and everything was spotlessly clean. Two huge bathrooms with heated towel rails etc. A really huge bedroom upstairs in the old part of the house with its own en-suite too.

The outside space was very comfortable with a wooden seat outside and well tended gardens/rockery. Also a large circular picnic bench where we had a couple of great BBQs. The views from the B&B up the hill are amazing - over to Lock Ken and into Castle Douglas. My son had a great time playing with the owners' three Border Collies who are very well trained and friendly. I jogged down to the main road a couple of times and it is breathtakingly pretty, particularly for nature lovers. We saw red kites, rabbits - not to mention the bulls!!

This is a great base for a holiday as it is centrally situated and we made trips to Portpatrick and to Ardrossan for the Isle of Arran but closer by you have Castle Douglas and Kircudbright just a few miles away. Alan recommended Carlos Italian Restaurant in Castle Douglas and it was a great recommendation as the food was excellent and the staff were friendly and welcoming so well worth a visit.

We would definitely holiday here again. If you want a very comfortable base in a beautiful, picturesque area of Scotland you really can't go wrong here. A big thanks to Alan and Tricia who are definitely onto a winner with this - I'm sure we will be back again...!

The three border collies on site are only some of the attractive features of this B and B situated on a working farm - fresh duck eggs are also a pleasant surprise. The situation is quiet - just outside Castle Douglas - the service friendly and welcoming, the rooms capacious and well-stocked and the food good.

Located a mile or so outside the village of Crossmichael and ten minutes from Castle Douglas, Airds Farm has wonderful views over the Loch Ken and to the hills beyond. A warm welcome and great accommodation awaits guests . Tricia is a fountain of knowledge on where to go and where to eat. Would strongly recommend Airds Farm.

Set above Loch Ken and the village of Crossmichael, Airds has wonderful views over the water and the hills beyond. A warm welcome comes from Tricia Keith with the offer of a pot of tea in the conservatory to take in the view. There are often roe deer on the specially seeded field below and red kites float past as passerines squabble on the bird feeders.
Our room was large with a double and 2 single beds, good bedside lights and a modern TV. Down 2 steps into the bathroom, with both bath and shower and plenty of room for 2 people to pass. Plenty of hot water too.
Breakfast was well up to standard with a selection of juices, cereals and fruits to start, followed by an excellent traditional English cooked breakfast.
If you are unsure what you want to do, Tricia is more than willing to make suggestions. But we knew that we wanted to visit the RSPB reserves at Ken Dee Marshes and Mersehead and both visits were highly successful; even a red squirrel on one feeder. And it's not too far to visit the WWT reserve at Caerlaverock to witness the tens of thousands of barnacle geese.
And for an evening meal, you can do no better than the Thistle Inn in the village and ask Nikos the chef what he would like to cook for you.

We stayed one night in the self catering Airdside house but taking bed and breakfast in the main house. Airdside is good value, spacious and comfortable but a bit old fashioned. We were made very welcome by Alan and Tricia and had a very memorable walk in the evening with their collies in the pouring rain. I was particularly excited to see a red kite. The are is absolutely beautiful and completely unspoilt
