From the garden we watched wild deer, salmon jumping in the river along with rabbits and the odd country fox and a barn owl. Near by there is the deer park where you can feed some deer by hand for free or even better pay for a tour with the ranger.
At night if the clouds clear you can see the Milky Way and then go back inside to the comfort of a log fire.
There is lots to see and do in the local villages and many cafes and restaurants around too.
The fishing is fantastic fun, brown trout, salmon, pike, and sea trout with a varied choice of fishing available and a rota system so it’s never crowded. Johnathan is a fantastic host and will check by to ensure everything is ok. He is often on the bank too pointing out the best spots to catch the salmon.
A wonder holiday location away from it all in beautiful countryside.
I needed a cottage close by to Garlieston to attend a family funeral , this fitted the bill and was pet friendly . Lovely cottage with everything you need , picturesque setting backing the river Bladnoch, great for walks and fishing .
Owners are great and helped me light the coal fire in the first night ... being a complete novice . Electricity is paid for via coin meter , meaning you need to keep an eye on the level of credit, we ended up in the dark a few times as it ran out.
