“Good little restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2013

Located at one end of town it's easy to miss this little restaurant, but it's worth searching out. We were a group of 5 and arrived in time for the early evening special, which was 2 courses for £10. The service was very friendly and we all enjoyed our meals - starters, mains and desserts were all very well presented, tasty and reasonably generous portions.

When we visited the restaurant wasn't licenced, but you were more than welcome to take in your own drink. Unfortunately we didn;t know that before we got there - although it would have been possible to nip out to buy a bottle from a local shop.

Our only minor gripe was that occasionally the service seemed a little slow, it was perhaps understaffed - but what little service there was was very nice!

Enjoyable and well-cooked meals at reasonable prices. Busy - always a good sign. A good range of options.

“Do they cook?”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 26, 2013

Went into Aroma last night with my husband hoping to get a meal. Went in & 2 tables empty but after 5 minutes no one had come to greet us! During this time we realised that it was the only Italian resteraunt we knew that didn't have a smell of garlic coming out of the kitchen! In fact there was no smell of cooking at all, rather strange given the name 'Aroma' Decided that we wouldn't risk it and beat a hasty retreat.

“Lacked service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

Ate hear on a Saturday night May Bank Holiday weekend. On arrival for a 7:30pm booking the restaurant was full. We walked in (6 of us), both staff members made no introduction or asked if we had a reservation and we were left looking like spare parts. I mentioned that we had booked a table and the waitress apologized as the party on our table had over stayed. The other party left within 5 mins. We were then showed to our table after another apology which was fine. The starters were pretty good. (Calamari, whitebait, doughballs). The main pasta dishes were also fine (Lasagne, bolognese and the rabbit casserole). 3 of us ordered the rib eye steak, and unfortunately this was very disappointing. At £15.95 the steaks were small, thin and fatty. All 3 of us felt this was the worst steak we have ever had. Service was very slow, both waitresses disappearing for long spells. Note: there are only 6 tables at this place. People were being turned away at 9:15pm as last food orders is 8:45pm! Booking is a must, but we wont be rushing back.

“Excellent value for money”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 1, 2013 via mobile

We visited Aroma on Easter Sunday, and luckily we had booked in advance as they were having to turn people away it was that full. Always a good sign! Saying that, I would recommend booking anyway as they are not the largest restaurant so will save disappointment. The restaurant as we walked in had a great atmosphere and the staff were quick to take our drinks order.

The menu had lots to choose from; for starter I had Crostini Di Funghi which was lovely, and then for main I had chicken in marscapone and sundried tomato sauce with chips and fresh veg. The portion size was huge but the meal was so delicious I had to force myself to try eat it all! The sauce was amazing, slightly creamy but not too much, as well it had a perfect amount. The chicken was pan fried and had a great taste to it. My partner had pizza and the base tasted lovely, also recommended!

As the first two courses were so good, despite being full we shared a dessert, a banoffee roulade. The texture was just right and I wish we had one each! The staff were really friendly and polite, only downfall was that it was slow at times but it was a really enjoyable setting so it wasn't really an issue.

If you have to choose anywhere in Newton Stewart to go for a meal, this should be the one!
