“Forestry vandalism”
Reviewed January 5, 2013

Glentrool is still a lovely place to visit, and the village is much underestimated- as an irregular visitor I am unable to understand why it is not a preservation village. It is a perfect example of a 1950 village built around a green by the Forestry Commission for their workers. The workers have gone now- the trees are harvested by brutal machinery, and vast tracts of the area are devastated by these methods and left semi- derelict for 'ecological reasons' (do you believe that?-I don't!). The FC's main contribution currently is to apply a £3 parking charge at their ripoff visitor centre (the highest in the whole region of Dumfries & Galloway, including Dumfries town centre!)- and that in arguably the remotest car accessible spot in SW Scotland. Don't want to stop you going- it's lovely, but park OUTSIDE before they put yellow lines down there as well!!- what vandals they are- disgraceful for a state organisation- sell them off NOW....

“Disappointing”
Reviewed September 30, 2012

Hardly worth the considerable effort in getting up there on the poor road. Poorly signposted for visitors. Not up to the same standard as other areas as we visited in Dumfries and Galloway.

“Mountain biking Glentrool- 7 stanes”
Reviewed May 10, 2012

We took the family to this site for some fun on the trails. On arrival the car park is well organised with a smashin wee visitor centre, coffee shop and staff. the trails are well laid out. I'd check out the web site for more info, however it is fairly up hill with exciting down hill runs and off road loops.

Green route; (short loop) with kids, the up hill was hard going, the down hill, exciting but a wee bit rough. The road links are used by the forestry trucks so are heavily rutted with loose stones. so kids, be careful. other wise, good fun...

Blue route; again, uphill and arduous for the younger MB'er .
The down hill section is fast and furious and as the sign says; 'test brakes'. my 10 year old managed both up and down (down more enjoyable) without any issues. just take it easy!!
