“Fantastic food and service”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

The service could not have been better considering there were 6 of us all dressed up in 80s gear for my friend's hen weekend! They even gave us a free bottle of bubbly which was a lovely touch. The staff were friendly and we received a warm welcome!

The only reason I deducted a point was because we went through to the bar after our meal and the locals were less than friendly. I personally felt awkward and their hostility made us leave in the end. It was really disappointing especially when the staff were excellent! It really wasn't the fault of the hotel or the staff so would still recommend this place!

I dined at the Black Horse Hotel with some friends. I thought the food was good but the service left a lot to be desired. Our table was out of sight from the bar area and maybe this was why it took some time before the waitress came to take our order because we thought we had been forgotten about.

It would have been nice if someone had come to ask if everything was alright for us and a goodbye as we left would have been appreciated. Just little things which if put into practice make you feel like a valued customer.

Stayed at the Black horse for 5 days whilst mountain biking at Kirroughtree. Hospitality, food & accomodation were great & all staff were very friendly.
Bikes were also very securely locked away at nights. Highly reccomended.

We stayed in Newton Stewart at the weekend and a special thank you has to go out to Susan (the barmaid) for being so hospitable to us on Saturday night (28th April 2012). Susan you are a great lass and thanks for putting up with the 4 of us, it was much appreciated. You made our evening very enjoyable and if we are ever in Newton Stewart then you will definitely get a visit. This is by far the best pub in Newton Stewart (we checked them all out) so if you are visiting then make sure and call in.
Thanks again for your time and your cheeky smile!!
All the best
