“Friendly and comfortable”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2013

The Crown Hotel is a traditional hostelry with very friendly and helpful staff. My room was very comfortable and cosy, with such essentials as a mirror for makeup by a good light from the bathroom window, and excellent directional reading lights above the bed. All in all v highly recommended.

Room Tip: Room number 5 was perfect for me, east-facing for good morning light.

Had my Wedfest wedding celebrations here in August this year. Staff all excellent, go out of there way to help! Decorated for me as i ran out of time. Organised buffet and helped clear all away. would definately recommend for birthday/ wedding celebrations. First class, couldnt ask for more. :) :)

We stayed here for 2 nights over the Bank Holiday weekend and we really enjoyed our stay. The staff were really friendly on reception when we arrived early and luckily our room was available. The room was ideal and very clean with a good sized bathroom perfect for our requirements. The full Scottish breakfast on both mornings was very good along with the cereals, toast and juice, we also had a meal in the Knights Bar one evening. There is free parking at the hotel and it is a great base for visiting the surrounding area.

This hotel is well situated right on the main road (Queen Street) in Newston Stewart - right within walking distance of many other restaurants if you are tired of driving after a long day. The rooms are very small. The bathroom felt like stepping into a space capsule. The TV is about the size of a IPad. But everything is clean and there is a coffee maker in the room along with a few biscuits. The breakfast in the morning was very nice with cooked to order items. Rooms facing the street are right across from a livestock auction - which can add to your whole experience or annoy you if you don't like to wake up to the bah of sheep. I thought it was hilarious and enjoyed it.

Stayed in Newton Stewart for a few days and had to find a place with a menu to suit our 3 fussy kids (7,7 & 3). Stumbled upon this place and very glad we did. We all really enjoyed our meals, really good portion sizes and excellent choice. Enjoyed it so much we went back (at the kids request).

CONTEXT
Stayed here for one night before starting the John O’Groats to Land’s end route by bicycle.

PROS
Friendly staff.

Good price. If you can ignore the strange colour co-ordination in the rooms, then £35 is an excellent rate and good value.

Comfortable room.

Restaurant. A hidden gem here. The fresh fish dish I had was superb and the service excellent
.
CONS
Apart from the haphazard colour scheme in the room, I can’t think of any.

CONCLUSION
If you’re staying in Newton Stewart, this is a fine place for a night’s accommodation and a good meal.
