We stayed in one of the LADY GALLOWAY LODGES at Conifers Leisure Park near Newton Stewart in mid March 2009.

We were 2 adults and a child of 3.

We booked with Hoseasons for just one night the day before arrival. Although the lodges are supposed to be a min of 3 nights they allowed us to stay for the bargain price of £56! Can be booked direct through xclusia.com

The Lodge

It was absolutely beautiful and exceeded expectations in all respects!

Large 3 bed-roomed log cabin with quality fixtures and fittings. 2 bedrooms (one double / one twin) on the ground floor with one en-suite. The other bedroom is on a mezzanine level above the lounge with twin beds. There is another bathroom, spacious lounge and a well equipped kitchen with a washing machine etc. Everything looked brand new! Lovely! (Tea and coffee sachets and milk provided but take extra and washing up liquid etc). There is a TV and DVD player.

The beds were very comfortable and linen and towels are provided. (Toilet paper was provided too). The heating had been put on for arrival but needs adjusting on the appropriate radiators to keep the lodge warm (Just a tip as we didn't realise and it was quite cold at first!!!!).

Large decked area at the front with 2 sets of tables. Not over looked at all!

The reception staff were great. When I enquired about check out the following day we were met with anytime that suited us but preferably before 4pm! We got the impression that nothing would be too much trouble but to be honest we had no need to contact reception as everything was perfect already!

Locality

I rated this 5 star from our point of view as we had a car and as we were only there for night visiting relatives who live 2 mins away from the park. We didn't get out and about at all and I presume a car would be needed to visit local towns, beaches etc. However, the park itself seemed extremely well kept and the setting was idyllic! The village of Minnigaff is about a 30 min walk away and although there is a hotel in the grounds there wasn't much else in theway of shops / eateries on site.I

Have to say I wholeheartedly agree with the previous posts and it would seem that this is a hidden gem....Well worth a visit especially out of season at the price we paid!!!

My husband booked this as a surprise for me and, as I'm usually responsible for booking our holidays and breaks, I was a bit worried about where he would choose. We arrived after dark and approached along a narrow winding track..... when I saw the lodges I was pleasantly surprised. Having never stayed in one before (we have two dogs and usually hire a caravan or cottage) I can honestly say this accommodation is one of the best I've had the pleasure of staying in. The lodges have all been recently refurbished to a very high standard and I could quite happily live in one! The lounge area is very spacious with large windows to take in the view. There is plenty of space between each lodge so you don't feel hemmed in. The heating had been turned on for us and it was lovely and warm despite freezing temperatures outside. In fact, the temperature stayed at a very constant level and we were always warm and snug. There were two leather sofas in the lounge area, plus a flat screen TV and DVD player. The dining table looked brand new, as did everything in the newly fitted kitchen which was well fitted out with microwave, kettle, toaster, and all the cooking utensils, crockery, etc that you could need. They even provide a complimentary supply of milk, tea bags, coffee etc which is a thoughtful touch at the end of your journey. It really was home from home. The bathroom had a lovely shower cubicle and the fluffy towels looked brand new. The heated towel rail was a nice touch too. The bed was small, but very comfortable and there was ample wardrobe and storage space. Everything was immaculately clean and couldn't be faulted. There is a reception area with lots of leaflets and information on the local area, and the staff are very helpful. When we had a problem with the DVD player, it was fixed immediately. We loved the quaint little town of Newton Stewart - every kind of shop and eaterie you could need - and the beach at Mossyard, although small, is lovely with pretty views across the bay and a clean sandy beach. We called at Carsluith Castle which is the most amazing virtually complete castle I've ever seen - free admission and totally deserted when we visited - amazing! It dates back to the 1400s and is well worth a visit. We also went to Cairn Holy - ancient burial chambers up on the hill overlooking the bay and also well worth seeing. Wigtown is a quaint little town full of old bookshops and art galleries, very good for a browse around. We had an excellent bar meal in the Bruce Hotel in Newton Stewart and would highly recommend this for a warm welcome, excellent service, high standard of food and great value for money. They also allowed us to bring our two dogs into the bar - their first visit to a hostelry! I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this part of Scotland and would definitely recommend a stay at the Conifers!

Lovely setting overlooking the Solway Firth. Peaceful, quite and very well appointed warm modern chalets. Great for a getaway from it all break and reasonably priced (£65 for a sleep 4 chalet in November) Look out for the varied birdlife and red squirrels.

We've just returned from a long weekend break at a lodge in a newly refurbished Leisure Park set in a rural location within Newton Stewart.
The 2 different sized lodges (4 & 6 sleeping) are very modern & extremely well equipped.
We were so taken by the experience that we wanted to share it with you - as we know you value honest & open opinons of different holiday locations & accommodations which need appreciated.
You will not be disappointed by these lodges or their convenience to the local parkland golf course or town centre. The wildlife in the region is worth the trip and if you have a pet, the staff are willing to except them allowing you the chance to get out & enjoy the local amenities which relate to the outdoors.
Cafe Cree in the town should not be missed - or the 'local produce fair' that introduces you to the wide variety of outstanding foods from the area
