We tried the Cross Keys for lunch and while one meal was OK, the smoked fish they served was not right. The waitress was indifferent to the pile of bones removed and it's the first time a steak knife would help cutting the fish.

Room Tip: Did not stay in the hotel.

You can't find a better location than the Cross Keys, and luckily the experience matches up. Is it the Georges V in Paris? No, but it is perfectly located if you're visiting the Borders, and the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome.

The food and bar are relatively basic, but they are good value, and like I said, the staff are very friendly and helpful. If you need to stay in or around Kelso, then the location is second to none, and you are moments away from restaurants and bars around the town centre, such as the Black Swan or the Red Lion.

7th time we have stayed here booking a package including hogmonay ball.As usual what stood out was the helpfullness and friendliness of the staff. We stayed on the 3rd floor this time and due to the fact the lift was out of order this got a little tiresome over the 4 night stay. The food each night was excellent and Lucca the manager made an effort to make our hogmany ball meal very pleasant with ordering something special for our party of 4 as we didnt much fancy the main course opptions.Mr B. also made our stay special. We did have a problem with the shower but was sorted imeadiatley. We will be booking again for next year and looking forward to it.Some reviews say the bar is not always open which is true but all you have to do is ask and someone will serveyou

A group of 37 bridge players traveled to Kelso for a weekend of bridge and fun. Everyone was delighted with the choice of hotel, the quality and selection of food, the friendliness and helpfulness of staff, and the value for money. We hope to return next year.
The one shortcoming was the broken lift which made it difficult for some of the guests who couldn't cope with stairs but this is to be fixed soon

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel are quieter. Not all rooms have a shower and so it is best to state y...

After checking the available hotels in the area decided to go with this one mostly based on the reviews available, and we were not disappointed.

The hotel is very well located, very central in Kelso. Easy to get there from the bus stops, has got a series of taxis in the vicinity and there is plenty of car parking within walking distance. We made our booking, a package that included three course dinner and breakfast. We would be departing very early, so we ended up not having the breakfast.

Upon arrival we were greeted by the rather friendly and helpful reception staff. The hotel is in good condition throughout. The room we got was one with square view, which was excellent since we got a glimpse of the arriving friday common ride, a good appetizer for our own on the following saturday. It was a comfortable room, of a very good size, with good storage, and all the amenities you would expect (kettle, tv, storage, complimentary mineral water and biscuits, toiletries, etc.) The only point I would make about the room is the use of macerators, but it ended up not being as noisy as I imagined.

Kelso is a lovely little village, so after a stroll we got in for dinner. It was an excellent experience. A lovely three course vegetarian meal, with good portions, well prepared, with plenty of taste. All served by very friendly staff. Only repair, a couple more vegetarian options for mains would be welcomed.

After that we set for an early night, and we got a great night of sleep. The hotel stops the lifts after 11pm which helps keep the silence throughout.

After a decent night of sleep we discovered we were left stranded by the taxi we arranged the previous night. With no obvious options available at such an early time, the hotel night porter came to our rescue, and kindly gave us a ride to the out of town place we were supposed to go. We are forever grateful for this. Hopefully someone at the hotel will read this and pass our thanks!
