We stayed at the Old Smithy for 2 nights in early July. Gail’s communication was excellent both before and throughout our stay – helpful, attentive yet not intrusive. She met us when we arrived and gave us a tour of the cottage. The layout of the Old Smithy is perfect – the bedrooms on one side and a very large kitchen/living room on the other. This made for both comfortable, peaceful nights and fun family times during the day. Each room was spotless and stylishly designed, with no outside noise.
We enjoyed some lovely walks in the fields near the village of Ednam that Gail had provided information on, and she had also left out scones and jam for us as well as treats for our dog. All in all, it really felt like a home away from home, and I’d highly recommend the Old Smithy to anyone looking for a relaxing break in the area.
Based in a quiet village but easy to get to Edinburgh, Berwick and the beaches of Northumberland are less than an hours drive . The property is beautifully presented spotless but still homely with lots of little added details. Gail and Adrian are excellent hosts and live close by if you need any advice on getting around. Will definitely return.
We had a wonderful weekend at the Old Smithy. The cottage is a beautiful, well cared for gem and we were very privileged to stay. There was such attention to detail and we were left short of nothing. The kitchen was well equipped and we were impressed by the lovely decor within each room. The cottage is in a wonderful location, very peaceful and relaxing with a stream running at the back. Small, pretty towns such as Kelso, Melrose and others are easily accessible are are lovely too.
Gail & Adrian were great hosts and made us very welcome.
Thank you! And we hope to come back very soon x
The cottage is close to all main tourist attractions, provides every possible requirement to make any holiday enjoyable and is managed by Gail who is a perfect hostess.
I have no hesitation in recommending this as a first choice when booking for the Scottish Borders
Stayed for the weekend for my husband's 60th birthday celebration and had a wonderful time in this superb cottage ! Gail and Adrian were very helpful and left nice little extras such as chocolates , flapjacks and a card and wine for the birthday boy ! The cottage is beautifully appointed with a large open plan kitchen and lounge , plenty of room for the six of us, Three good size bedrooms , one en-suite , was ideal for our group. The setting is lovely , a quiet little village , and the cottage has a lovely garden set next to a river. Nice for walks or just chilling out. All six of us thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend a visit. Our thanks to Gail and Adrian.
