“Cosy and full of charm”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 8, 2012

We stayed here last February in room 203 which has a lovely 4 poster bed, decor and large bathroom with jacuzzi. Our 2 children were with us so we needed a larger room and this one was perfect. Our experience was very positive.
Reception staff were lovely and didn't treat us any differently because we booked with a 5pm voucher.
Views really were breathtaking - ask for a loch view which I'm sure they'll give you if you book early
Food was really nice, nothing fancy but perfectly adequate for what we paid
Drinks were reasonable
Library bar with roaring fire was beautiful

The use of the leisure facilities in nearby hotel was however lacking. The sauna door had huge gap at bottom, which defeats the purpose of a sauna frankly. I hope management get this fixed. Changing area not great but that didn't bother us too much. A little investment in this would go a long way given more and more people wish spa facilities in hotel these days.

We have booked to go back in January this year and can't wait. Hotel staff have been great and given us same room we stayed in before. Thank you!

This is a 3 star hotel, with 3 star prices, so if you have realistic expectations of what you are getting you will not be disappointed. Go and enjoy it, the scenery is beautiful.

After reading tripadvisor report we almost didn't go as this was a treat for my wife's birthday. On arrival we were greeted promptly and in a very friendly, welcoming manner, and shown to our room. The room was a good size, with a view out of the window to the Loch. It was well equipped with tea etc and t.v and very clean though slightly dated decor. Room was nice and warm.
The food served in the restaurant had a good choice and was excellent quality produce. We were especially impressed with the breakfast which had a choice of 9 cooked items as well as toast, cereal, fruits, yoghurt and croissants.
All staff were very friendly and attentive, taking the time to ask about our day and plans while visiting. We would have no reservations with returning to this hotel.

Enjoyed the location - restaurant staff were not as helpful or as friendly as they could be and the menu was basic. Breakfast however was excellent, views great and with groupon it was very good value.

The good....really gorgeous views over loch and mountains, log fire in the bar, nice Shiraz, all you can eat breakfast, free wifi.

The bad....boyfriend complained of a bad nights sleep, water is from a private well so bath and drinking water is a bit muddy looking, very impersonal service including surly barmaid, no feeling of attention to detail. All felt a bit budget.

The ugly...£2.75 for a cappuccino - was a machine made coffee with no froth...sent it back. Just don't have a coffee.

We paid £70 for DBB for 2 - good value, but would NEVER pay full price! It could be so much better.

Room Tip: best thing about the hotel by a mile is the view - so make sure your room has one!

Thank you for your response following your recent stay with us. I am glad to note that overall you enjoyed your stay on the G roupon Offer. We have discussed your negative comments with regards to your boyfileds lack of sleep and also the colour of the water. The water is from a Natural spring on the hills adjacent to the hotel and sometimes when there is heavy rainfall the water can be a slight dark colour.
The water is tested daily by our maintenance team in line with the strick regulations from the Local authorities.
We hope that you will keep your eye out for the various offers that we have here in Ballachulish and return to stay with us.

We revisited Ballachulish hotel after six years, holding on to great memories we had on a previous visit. Sadly, much had changed in the intervening years - and not for the better.

The location is still excellent and the room (lochview) was adequate but the greatest letdown was the restaurant. What was (6 years back) an excellent restaurant has now descended to a badly run pub masquerading as a restaurant. We love pub food - but the food has to be good. Sadly this was not the case.

We will keep the memories from six years back and try and forget this one... and will probably not want any further memories from here.

Room Tip: Loch facing is a must - the view is the only saving grace for this place.

Beautiful situation next to loch but not all rooms have loch view. Our room was at the back but perfectly comfortable and quite sizeable for a twin. We were staying with a coach party & some older people found their rooms cold - we like cooler hotel rooms. Biggest complaint was the food - not the quality but the amount. Bein with coach party we were on restricted menu for evening meal. First day the portions for the main course were very small & we left hungry. Not mfuch bigger next day. However the breakfasts were OK. Can't comment on food from a la carte menu - didn't hear any cmplaints from other guests.

Room Tip: Ask for room with loch view

Thank you for your review following your stay with us. Very happy to see that you were comfortable in your room throughout your stay. I am glad that you found the Breakfasts to your satisfaction but dissappointment to see your comments with regards to Portion size at Dinner. I am not aware if your mentioned this to your group leader or one of my Duty Managers during your stay but we would always be very happy to take this on board and ensure that all is well with our Dinner standards and service.
We hope that you will travel again to stay with us here in the Highlands.
