“Great base for hiking”
Reviewed July 14, 2013

This was a wonderful base for hiking in the Ballachulish, Kinlochleven, and Glen Coe, Scotland area. The hosts were friendly and were knowledgeable about the local trails and buses. The rooms and beds were comfortable. The breakfasts were great (the host has been a finalist in porridge making competition). There is a common room with TV and enough space to hang out with our larger group. The house itself is a stone house built in 1885.
There is a Coop grocery store and a pub with decent food within a block or so.
Only one room has a bathtub, but that's the room we had.

Room Tip: Their website gives descriptions, and the hosts were easily available for questions via e-mail.

Stayed one night only. Room a bit on the cramped side and in need of updating. However, bed very comfortable and the breakfast was superb. Everybody should try the porridge - it's delicious. Very friendly hosts.

Thank you for your kind review and we were pleased to hear that you enjoyed David's porridge. It would be helpful to hear what you think needs updating in the room and if you could drop us an email it would be much appreciated, all feedback helps.

This guest house is located close to many walks. There is much to see and do very close to the facilities. Although our room was a little small, we were made to feel very welcome and our breakfast was delicious.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view.

I stayed for two nights in June and had a great experience. The hosts were very helpful and hospitable and my bedroom was so comfortable. I was a single traveller and had a twin room with ensuite. The room was a delight and I could control the central heating which was fab. My bed was so comfortable and after spending the day walking a Munro it was just what I needed. Plenty of hot water as well as coffee and tea facilities. The room had some helpful brochures as well as including a number of different options for eating. One took my fancy and as it was recommended that a booking be made, David kindly rang them up and managed to score me a table in a short amount of time. The breakfast was great in the morning, lots of options and very well cooked. There was wifi in my room and I was able to park my car in a dedicated bay for the villa. Being at the foot of beautiful munros was wonderful and to walk out of the b&b and be surrounded by them was amazing. I have stayed in the village before but this was my first time at Fern Villa, I will definitely come back to this b&b it was wonderful. It's a great location for Glencoe.

Room Tip: I had a room at the back overlooking a very lovely garden. There was no noise at all except for the...

This was a great place to stay. The room was comfortable, clean and quiet. The hosts made us feel so welcome and they made reservations for dinner for us at a local restaurant within walking distance. Great breakfast. We would highly recommend.

Stayed with my husband for one night, one of may B& Bs we had stayed in during a week's holiday touring the area. Both David and Catherine were splendid hosts, and our room information on a wealth of tried and tested places to visit as well as local eateries. The highlight was the breakfast... David's award winning porridge was delicious, followed by a Loch Fyne kipper with a poached egg, tomato and mushrooms, which was cooked to perfection! Thanks again David, we'll be back again!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the shinty pitch.
