Recently enjoyed a leisurely lunch here with a friend. I hadn't visited since the Beckford was almost destroyed by fire a couple of years ago. Walking in, it actually felt just as it did the last time I visited! The atmosphere was lively and the food was excellent. Highly recommended.

Myself and my girlfriend had a lovely stay here in January, only slightly marred by few small issues.
The actual pub and food were pretty much faultless.
But our room was a little bit shabby, particularly the bathroom.
When we arrived our toilet hadn't been cleaned and without going in to details, was pretty unpleasant.
Also the light fitting above the shower was hanging out of it's recess which not only looked a bit crap but also looked pretty dangerous.
Normally I would complain about these sort of things but the staff were so lovely and we were having such a great time that I didn't want to spoil it by moaning.
We were on a 2 nights for the price of 1 deal through Mr & Mrs Smith, so it felt pretty good value and we were willing to overlook these things.
But, if we had payed full price i would have been very disappointed by the small issues, and I would definitely have said something at the time.

But the staff really made the trip, they were so nice and I'm sure if we had complained at all, they would have been quick to rectify it.
We'd definitely go back again but possibly not paying full price, as we'd expect slightly more from the room for those prices.

Charming small pub with rooms, good food but staff seem a little distracted with chatting at the bar with the locals.
Just didnt feel very welcome,a bit in the way to be honest.
The location is beautiful and perfect for walks and fresh air!

Really lovely staff make this place something really special. Room wasn't huge but this pub has so much to commend it, good food, warm welcome, honest character, individual style and it still has that delightful 'local' feel. Book a stay - you truly won't regret it

Room Tip: better value rooms are quite small

Just enjoyed a wonderful 2-night stay here and we're already thinking about coming back in the summer (I have visions of dining out in the lovely garden on a balmy summer evening). This place has it all - tastefully decorated bedrooms with extremely comfortable beds and lovely toiletries, great gastropub style food in the cosy restaurant (the Pythouse lamb is divine) and an excellent selection of reasonably priced wines, friendly, helpful staff and a relaxing sitting room complete with roaring fire. As if all that wasn't enough there are lots of quirky little extras like films shown in the sitting room on Sunday evenings, drawstring bags filled with the kind of essentials that you always forget to pack hung thoughtfully on the back of the bathroom door and hangover cures in a big glass jar alongside all the components of a perfect bloody mary on the breakfast buffet table. Can't wait to return.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 1, which looked out onto the car park. It had both a bath and shower.

We stayed here at the beginning of January for two nights and I'd say the experience was mixed. The rooms are nice and comfortable if a bit small. The food is pretty good but then I would expect it to be as it's not cheap. The best meal we had during the weekend (and the cheapest) was at the Red Lion Freehouse which has a Michelin star and is about 30 minutes drive away. The most disappointing part of the stay was on the Saturday afternoon when, hoping to spend a quiet afternoon in the sitting room, we came back to find the place overrun with a group of about 40 people from a pheasant shoot who were very loud, let their kids and pets run wild around the sitting room and left nowhere to sit for any guests. I appreciate that this is a pub with rooms and this is to some degree expected, but the staff were clearly friends with them and we didn't get any sort of apology from the staff or acknowledgement that the situation wasn't ideal. Overall a bit disappointed after the rave reviews this place got on here.

Really enjoyed our two night stay here - lovely room (7) with freestanding bath and view to thatched cottage opposite. We whew welcomed on a cold miserable night by the smell of wood fires and really friendly staff - very relaxed atmosphere combined with good service and food. Definitely a pub with rooms, but stylish, like a tiny Barnsley House or Babington, with beautiful home made toiletries in the rooms - we smelled great!
Would definitely return in the summer to take advantage of the gorgeous countryside on the doorstep.

Room Tip: Loved our room (7)
