“Very interesting history of early photography”
Reviewed March 11, 2013

As a keen film photographer, the early history of William Fox Talbot's invention of a new method of visual recording is quite fascinating. Well worth a visit for the local history, even if not particularly interested in photography.

“A lovely day out, will visit again.”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

This lovely village with its Abbey and museum is owned by the National Trust. The car parking is free for NT members. This is probably one of the prettiest villages i have visited,it has been used for filming in Cranford,Harry Potter and Pride and Prejudice.
As we wandered around the village clicking away on the camera, each little street showed charming cottages and shops and there were plenty of cafe"s and pubs to go into for a bite to eat and a drink.
National Trust members can enter the Abbey and museum for free, the museum had a display of camera"s from past to current time and told the history of Fox Talbot who originally discovered photography and was one of the owners of the Abbey.Upstairs, the museum had a display of photographs from Michael Palin"s travels around the world.
The Abbey was also lovely to look around, the cloisters are amazing to look at on the ground floor of the Abbey and each room provides the history of the Abbey and its masonic roots.
Upstairs, the Abbey rooms were well preserved and set out as if the Fox Talbot"s set out as if the Fox Talbot"s still lived there.
Each room had a National Trust guide to answer any questions you may have.
You can then stroll through the lovely gardens before taking a picnic in the picturesque grounds or enjoying a cold drink and food in one of the pubs.
This is a really lovely place to visit and you really need a whole day if you want to get the most out of your visit to Lacock.

“Very interesting and well set out exhibition”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

Fascinating and well laid out exhibition covering the invention and development of photography and exciting to see it in situ. Fox Talbot who lived here seemed like an extraordinary man and it inspired us to research him further. Could have spend longer , certainly worth an hour's visit.

“Good interpretations”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

A good experience. Very good interpretative exhibits showing the early history of photography, but interesting if you're not a snapper, as well. Good rooms and 19th Century furniture to wander through and around.

“Very Interesting”
Reviewed February 15, 2013

Quite a fascinating summary of the invention and development of photography. There is a very interesting exhibition exhibition upstairs, that is also well worth a visit. All in all, a most enjoyable hour's visit.
